Goddamn, I was reading something about Nemesis last week and I can;t remember what it was. If I find it, I'll post it. Sister of Hubris, (waiting for Haus to come and correct my classical errors) anyhow - I think whatever-it-was-I-was-reading indicated she was worshipped by Roman soliders as a Goddess of Just Causes.
Ah, I've remembered!!
Nemesis and Other Essays by Stephen Mace.
The West is old, doddering, burdened with karma and
yet smugly self-satisfied, even arrogant. Where else
could Nemesis be, but right behind its back? This
essay examines Nemesis' mythic origin and relates
her special impetus to the historical morphology
Oswald Spengler offers in his Decline of the West.
Not being a conservative German patriot writing
between the years 1911 and 1922, I need not be
such a pessimist as he, but once you remove the
bitter seasoning, his predictions are uncanny,
enlightening, and contain heavy sorcerous implications |
