A call for Aussie Barbelites - Specifically Sydney & Melbourne

Over the past few months I have mentioned once or twice that I'll be coming home to Australia for a visit in October and, partially inspired by Puck's thread in the Gathering, I thought I would put a call out to South East coast barbeloids to see who might like to come out to play. I've popped up here as I figured that not many Aussie meets happen and people might not regularly look at the Gathering because of that

{Please note that I'm not discriminating against the West coast or the North East Coast, I just don't have the time or the money to go there too this time! And if I don't visit the family and friends I do have, I just might not make it back at all!)

Anyway, I will be in Sydney during the end of the week commencing 13 October and in Melbourne either the week of the 20th or 27th depending on several things. At all other times I'll be visiting family in Canberra.

So far I know that Dread Pirate Crunchy (Syd) and Matsya (Melb) have popped their heads up and mentioned they might like to come and meet up. Anyone else? The more makes the merrier and it would be lovely to meet you.

Maybe I will end up talking to my self and losing Puck somewhere in the wildes of Paddington! (Which strangely enough is not that much different to the one in London, except that Sydney's is younger and more hip the the gay scene!

Mister Disco/The Fool - It would be so lovely to meet up with you both. I am leaning towards being in Melb during the week of the 27th does that work for you? Also since it has been 5.5 years since I lived in Melbourne I'm afraid I will have to leave it to you to suggest good places to go. Are your email addresses on your profiles for real/up to date? Puck - Don't be a fretting now! Life just happens. I have always wanted to get over to WA as I've been told the landscape is pretty spectacular - all that red soil! If you happen to get over to the east coast before I head off then post here/PM me and I'm sure we can get something sorted. If not, but you'd still like to meet up with some people, PM Rothkoid and I have no doubt that he could show you a good time! Good luck with the Job thing. Out of curiosity, what is it exactly that you do that makes you wander off to Kalgoorlie? Not that there's a problem with that, but it is an unusual place to have to head off to.

Yikes! I am about to head off on the trip and am awake at stupid o'clock due to dreading the family bit of this endeavour. Sigh!

i know it's not the most imaginative, but we're all about introducing angel to this part of the world, so I'd like to propose dinner at the moroccan soupbar in north fitzroy, then maybe beers at the empress of india hotel. i'll check the gig guide to see who's playing that week.

does that sound okay? good food and pub bands? or did you have something else in mind, angel?

I am going away for a couple of days, so can't meet until Sunday probably. Is Sunday night good for you people? Also I am dead broke so cannot afford the Moroccan Soup Bar, as much as I love the food. I'd be happy to sit around over beers (and this is about as much as my budget can take.) The Empress is a mighty fine place for that to happen, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe you kids can go have 'soup' and I can meet you later?

Hey Ho! Back with the net access, well via cafe anyway. I know what you mean about trying to keep up with everything/one!

Sunday night sounds fine, but also I am free during the day as the lovely friend I am staying with needs a couple of hours to put the finishing touches on an essay. So is there anyway of opening this up to the possiblity of day and/or night.

Northcote is a lovely area and in fact I used to live just near Merri station. Matsya is bar 303 at the bottom of the hill or up over the hill? Does that work for anyone?

Mr Disco I am not financially sparkling either so we could meet for coffee on Sunday day maybe? That may not suit your plans but let me know anyway.

Argh, whoops, another change of plans. I am in Bairnsdale (five hours away) visiting my mum and having a post-uni chillout. It's looking likely that I won't be able to bring myself to come back to the city until Tuesday. Angel, do you know when you're leaving, yet?

Right time to make this very simple.

I will go to bar 303 on Sunday night. I am female, about 5'2", very curvaceous (or round depending which way you want to look at it!), with shoulder length red/brown hair and look very hippy like. I will wear a long red patchwork skirt with a brown woven long over dress. I should be fairly recognisable. Basically short and flowy!

I will check barbelith tomorrow to see if anything has changed, if not, then that's where I will be and keep a look out for me.

Mr Disco, I head off on Tuesday afternoon at 3.30pm, so we could maybe meet for a morning coffee if you are not working, or not working office hours?

Oh dear! I didn't make it to bar 303 last night. I'm so sorry. I was catching up with an old, old frind and it took longer than expected. I'm gutted that I had to make a choice between the two things and I couldn't let you know I wasn't going to make it. Sorry about all that.

I leave Melbourne tomorrow afternoon, so that doesn't really leave much space for catching up, however all may not be lost. There is a slim possibility that I might be in the country for another couple of weeks, as the aforementioned friend is getting married on the 15th of Nov. Now I have to check out some stuff like whether it's possible to include me in their wedding calculations, whether my boss is cool to give me another couple of weeks off and whether the money I am owed comes in, but if all of those conditions are met, then we may get another shot at meeting up. If you lot are still up for it that is.

I should know 2/3 of the answers tonight so I will post when I know and see how we go from there. I hope this is OK. Love and Respect to all.

Hello Lovely Melbourne Peoples! Shall we try Meet Up Version 2.0?

I am coming to Melbourne town for a wedding which is happening on the 15th of November. I will be in town and available to meet up from Wednesday the 12th to Friday 14th. Does this suit anyone? Should we try for somewhere in Fitzroy? I don't actually know any nice pubs/cheap eats around that area but there are bound to be some. What's the Black Cat like these days? Nice? Too Trendy? The sofa's certainly looked comfy when I walked past the last time I was in town.

Anyway I am happy to be guided by you. Cheap is good, although doesn't need to be cheap and nasty. What do you think? Hope we can make it this time!
