I always found the parade to be a raging pain in the ass, but it's sort of fun to trop around the West Village afterwards and watch the parade-goers in their drunken debauchery. I guess there is probably more going on in NYC at Halloween than in a lot of places, but it all depends what you wind up doing. My best NYC celebrations were either on a rooftop on Christopher street at an annual party that always got shut down by the cops, or two years ago at a show in Brooklyn, where I watched an entire posse of Elliots (from E.T.) ride bikes around the block, complete with bundles in the baskets.
You'll definitely get to see some good costumes, at the very least. I almost wish I was going to be there again. |
