Odd post disappearance.

In Art Fasion and Design, in the 'look in your own wardrobe' thread, I posted something last night which is now not there. It was an odd sort of post because I was a bit drunk, but it wasn't offensive in any way - except perhaps to my own intelligence and I wondered if anyone can shed some light on it's disappearance. I've asked Anna, and she suggested posting here about it, to see if we can see what happened. I did see it on screen, so I know I definitely posted it, I mean I wasn't *so* drunk as to have accidentally not posted it.

I don't really mind that it's gone, it's just interesting in the light of the current discussions.

I also posted something in the conversation, about a week ago, a sort of joke link about animal cruelty, and whilst I can understand it beinf deleted, it was, well, in the conversation as fluff more than anything, and it WAS funny, as at least two people responded to it to say so.

Just making a note.

olulabelle: there was a deletion request from yourself in the moderation action queue when I logged in this morning. This was for a post (the first in a thread, I believe) that was in the Conversation, but trying to remember the content I think it could have been meant for Anna's thread. The reason you gave for the deletion was something like "because it's stupid!" - if you were drunk, could you have asked for it to be deleted and then forgotten doing so? Ignore me if this is something else entirely.

Just out of interest what time did you post it up? I checked Art, Fashion and Design at about half past one last night and there was nothing new in there and as far as I know there weren't any moderation requests either although they could have been caught by one of the Super-Mods or Lilith.

Your original post in your CV thread in conversation is gone too, or was that on purpose? Perhaps this is the post Flyboy is talking about?

That is odd, especially if more than one person has had the same experience. Could there be some kind of board glitch doing this?

oulabelle, I've looked into the database and there has never been a post by your user number in that thread. If it had been deleted by a moderator it would still be there, but marked as deleted. For it to disappear from the database would require me to have gone in and deleted it by hand. There could have been an error in it being submitted to the board, but otherwise I think you must have been more drunk than you thought!

J - the thread you're talking about would presumably be this one: somethign about stoats which has indeed been deleted. I can't quite figure out why, but there was probably a good reason.

Mazarine - the post that Flyboy is talking about is indeed the same one. The thread is here: something about CVs

There's no mystery about why that thread was deleted, Tom - look at the date of the last post, then look at the date of the earliest threads left in Conversation at the moment and you'll see it was obviously wiped in the last forum purge.

How bizarre. I'm really, really sure I saw it posted. If there wasn't an error when it was submitted, then I have to say I am hang my head in shame for making you all waste your time talking about it. Thank you Tom for checking. The 'something about CV's' post really wasstupid, but isn't the one that I posted to Art and Design, it was in Conversation. I really don't get it, because I swear I wasn't that drunk...

Did you dream it? I had a dream that I posted something to barbelith last week and it was awful. I woke up in a right panic and realised that I actually hadn't alienated anyone with my awful, fascist words.

Did you really?! Maybe I did...

Or maybe I'm just going quietly mad.

J - can you let us know which thread your post was in? Like I say, the thread that Tom's pointed out was last active at the beginning of last year, which makes it seem doubtful that it's the one you're talking about if your post was contributed and deleted within the last couple of weeks. If you can point out the correct thread, then Tom can probably find the post you say was deleted in the database and have a look at why it was edited.

Edit: Just for the record, J - in a piece of news so unexpected that the board almost noticed - turned out to be another trollsuit (see here for details). The post he's complaining about losing probably never existed in the first place as, to the best of my knowledge, he wasn't even using that suit to post with at the time he claims.

A possible explanation for vanishing posts: Imagine I make a bish and double post. "Bugger," say I, and put in my delete post request for one copy. Meanwhile, a moderator has spotted my error, and has helpfully requested a deletion-- for the other copy. If both requests are okayed, then both posts are wiped.

Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to cackhandedness.
