Amanpour voices doubts over war coverage

Christiane Amanpour has voiced doubts over the thoroughness and accuracy of war reporting. Amanpour is the face of CNN's coverage, and she took her own network to task. Speaking about Fox News, however, Amanpour was even more blunt:

"I'm sorry to say that, but certainly television - and perhaps to a certain extent my station - was intimidated by the administration and its foot soldiers at Fox News. And it did, in fact, put a climate of fear and self-censorship in terms of the kind of broadcast work we did."

[...]

A Fox News spokeswoman said: "It's better to be viewed as a foot soldier for Bush than spokeswoman for al-Qaeda."

Wow. "Big Brother: America's Best Friend" won't be long in coming from their top stories. Idiocy.

About bloody time she spoke out - she is half-Iranian. Wonder whether CNN would send her to cover a US attack on Iran?

Well, I think the worst thing reporters did in the war was try and head off to find stories on their own.

I mean, they could get stories easily by embedding themselves (getting into bed with, in other words) coalition forces.

Otherwise, well, people just get hurt. Or, y'know, killed.

And, well, it is easy in a time of war - or even post-war war - to make an easy mistake, such as mixing up a TV camera with a FUCKING ROCKET LAUNCHER, YOU STUPID CUNTS

I can't see who could fault Fox News and Geraldo. He even carries a gun! He's cool! Not a journalist, but, hey, he's entertainment, and that's all America needs, not news!

Anyway, a reporter is standing accused of being an al qaeda spokesman already. Christine doesn't need to get involved...
