1982's Tron @ IMDB

There's the 2003 video game, but I'm not sure about a sequel.

I haven't seen Tron in ages, but damn did I dig it. Something about all that glowing!

there's this link for the game www.tron20.net
how could they not make a sequel? those bastards. special effects have improved so much just imagine what a sequel would look like.
the glowing is where its at. notice how the beginning starts off just like the matrix does? the zooming into the title of the movie, and all of those other elements that were derived from it for the matrix.
they should of had a tron vs. flynn fight to the death a la kirk vs. spock bit in there, you know with like a soundtrack reminiscent of the one they used in star trek bum bum buuum buuum buuum buuum buuum buuum bumbumbum and so on.
oh yeah, thanks for the topic abstract, I wasn't really sure what to write.

A Tron sequel?

Shows what I know - I thought the sequel was already filming. The game was initiated, IIRC, as a companion to the proposed second film. I'll try and dig out some of the stuff about it if I remember.

I'm watching Tron right now, as a matter of fact. Because I finally saw "Matrix Reloaded" the other night and kept thinking to myself "This is SO like Tron...Uh...But with more layers?"

When I was a kid I went to the video arcade and played the Tron videogames until I could kick ass at them. Maybe that makes Tron one of the first modern "multimedia" flicks.

This movie is UBER-dated. But fun!

End of line, program...

thoughts on Tron 2.0: the new costumes look lame in comparison to the old ones(they're manga-styled aren't they?), it sucks that the programs are now designed to look as inhuman as possible, and what is the deal with the gun? the idea of being able to destroy other programs with a frisbee was cool enough. whatever.

has anyone played the game yet? and if so is it cool or not?

This movie is UBER-dated. But fun!

But the design work of Syd Mead still rocks. His stuff never dates badly...

Worst line: "I knew you'd escape! They haven't built the circuit that could hold you!"

Best line: "This isn't happening. This only THINKS it's happening!"

you're damn straight about "this isn't happening, this only thinks its happening." being the best line.
I agree about syd mead's design work, I think its timeless.
it was very cool to see a young bruce boxleitner(msp?) when I'd only recognized him before from babylon 5.

I don't think there will be a sequel to TRON unless the video game does record breaking numbers. The movie lost so much money when it came out, Disney lost nearly a quarter of its value on the stock market. It was a HUGE bomb and only recently (with the DVD reissue) started to make a profit.

Check out the most freaked I was ever as a child when I returned home from thr cinema viewing Tron and typed TROn into my Dragon 32 home computer and it accepted it. AAAArrrgh, went my mind. Reality crash. As it turned out to my naive mind that the command TRON was tracer on, and it allows you to view basic code as software runs.

I didn't know it was bomb, why did they even talk about making a sequel then? get my hopes up.

It looks awesome doesn't it? Like an evil Lebowski Matrix, I can't wait.

The Daft Punk score is what's putting this over the top for me, it's a perfect fusion of visual aesthetic and music. Bangalter's score for Irreversible is one of the best film scores ever, so as long as the script isn't insultingly bad, this should be a pretty fun movie.
