Things around this joint are looking mighty sad. The cold grip of apathy and uncaring have seized even the fine green pastures of our fair community. The darkness is sweeping in and the dazed and confused aren’t aware: they are too bored to care!

Well, we don’t have to take it and we can take the chance to remake it, but no one can stand alone when the sky is falling. We, the weirdest of the weird and the most free of freedom lovers, might have to stand together, united, as one. Sometimes numbers have power and the lone individual can not effect positive change alone.

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired of control and abuse, the seeming double standards and hypocrisy, then we The Revolution For The Revolution need you.

Please post to this thread or PM me (in this suit or my other now 'modog' suit--I reached my limit for the day and I am far from done--sorry Tom) if you are interested in action. Today we organize, tomorrow we strike!

You really aren't doing yourself any favours here, and it's almost inevitable that continuing like this will lead to a number of people considering you in the same light they do a certain other poster, possibly with the end result that you'll be treated in the same manner.

If you want to avoid that, you and everyone else will let this drop now.

I have now had one thread locked and then four threads deleted from the public board. All this stems because I wanted to register a complaint about Haus because he had slandered me, the evidence of which has now been quietly effaced.

The Self Imposed Blindness that Mr. Haus so Obviously Enforces upon his own Interpretations OR When is a troll not a troll?

On the basis of this topic summary I'm going to suggest that you are stripped of your moderator status. Attacking someone is one thing, calling out a load of trolls, one of whom is permanently banned from this board is another. I don't think this thread should be deleted, leave it here for people to see.

WOW! Nazi's in the topic abstract. That must be a record.

Oh, 6opow. Shut up. We don't care.

Really.

So finaly after pages I couldn't be bothered to read we get to the crux of things - you've been slandered (not arguing about the truth or otherwise or this allegation right now). Another poster has been abusive toward you. Well, what do you want everyone else to do about it? What possible response can we have beyond "oh well, that's life, get over it"?

I would have a lot more respect for you if you let this thing go and tried to engage in doing something constructive with the board. Right now you seem to me to be riding your obsession into the ground.

like I am not calling out the trolls to destroy this place 'cause that is simply retarded: it is an empty threat

Well you shouldn't have done it then should you. Empty threat or not. There can be no back pedalling in a textual community- haven't you learnt that yet?

Yeah, that's was what I was gonna say (verbatim, no less).

So I'll just stay out of it then shall I?

Cos, while I really couldn't give a fiddler's fart about the issues or protagonists involved, and so perhaps should button it, I have to say that the way my posts (pretty much agreeing with the general sway of opinion on display here) are disappearing does have a creepy feeling about it.

Money $hot: that's because of the threads they've appeared in, not - I'd imagine - specifically because they're your posts. One of mine has gone the same way, a number of Anna's have...

mod. You are angry and that happens. I would really back away now. Confine your complaints to the Policy thread in a calm manner. It really is in your best interests.

This is an interesting point. I wonder if something can be done about that.

I'm gonna ask something about this over in the Policy.

Illmatic. We had a pleasant conversation the other day, and you are at least trying, perhaps?

The issue starts with Haus slandering me. It ends with several threads being deleted and another locked.

I complain that not only has Haus slandered me on this one instance, but also, he does this sort of thing much of the time, to several members, and this is not appropriate behaviour for anyone. If he was anyone else, he wouldn't get away with such crap.

Trailing in with this (I think Haus brought it up originally...) was the idea that perhaps Haus is no longer suited for mod/admin duties. This came up again, and we are now working out the details of the forthcoming policy case.

So there are actually to sides to this gripe:

1) Haus is an abusive member and a bully to other members on his whim without correction and often without recognition by certain members.
2) Haus is a mod/admin who abuses his status to alter posts, delete threads, and etc..

This is what is going on.

Given that this is all about someone that thinks they've got a grievance with the Barbe Mods, perhaps a less antagonistic way of dealing with it would have been not to delete all his threads. Whadyareckon?

Yes. It's creepy and it feels like there's this weird paranoia underlying the board atm because things keep disappearing and it's not nice. What we could do with is really some communication on why and when specific threads are deleted or locked. I'm sure that would make a hell of a lot of people far happier about this whole darn mess that we seem to be living through. Unfortunately there's never a good time to bring this kind of thing up and there are issues surrounding that kind of detail- the time that it would take up for moderators and just how often we want to refer to trolls. However we can't and should not avoid the fact that this place feels like it's on the run.

And Shapeshifter- the problem is how far do you allow yet another thread that visits a personal attack on a specific member of this community to exist? Our moderator's are only human... they can't always make the right decisions. Having said that I don't think this thread should be deleted under any circumstance... it brings up some issues we need to face wrt all of the regular posters.

To all and anyone concerned!

I now, after staying up all night (it's not too bad I woke up at 6:00 pm yesterday), have to go to the uni for my "Methodology in Religious Studies" class. If I have a suit to come back to, then you--as sure as hell is hot--will see me later…

an attempt at a helpful suggestion: would this fight be stopped fairly easily if there was a slightly more fixed set of rules for moderaters? (Or is there one already, or do we not like the idea of more structure here?)

Tryphena Absent

I think the problem has to be identified in the first place... then questions arise- do we have one policy for some people and another policy for others. If we're going to lay down rules than we're going to have to extend the same rules to moderators who are posting and general members. There is no fixed set of rules because it's difficult to come up with some that work right across the board- so...

what do you think the problems with this board are and do you feel out of the loop (and can we keep this slightly sweet and not bring to many individual fictionsuits in to it)??

Tell you what, Shapeshifters, here's my advice to you: volunteer to be a moderator. Wade through umpteen K******* or Elmo spam attacks, deleting post after post, endure various other posters going mental, struggle in vain to get people to add topic abstracts, or titles that have anything to do with the subject of the thread, or make their initial post anything more than a one-line comment or link. Remind people constantly to check if there's a thread on something before starting a new one. Endure constant snide implications from various malcontents that you're part of some secret elitist conspiracy. Spend far too much time thrashing out with other moderators how to handle situations where other boards would just delete/boot the fucker. Point out repeatedly to people where decisions have been made at the end of such a lengthy process, and where the guy who's made it possible for us to have this board has made decisions/suggestions. Risk having one particularly persistent troll start intruding into your life off-board.

And after all this, have some of the people on who's behalf you're doing this suggest that maybe the way to deal with threads called 'Fascists!' is to be more open-minded, and stroke the little troll's head and cuddle hir and kiss hir boo-boo, rather than just delete the sickeningly familiar spam.

It's great fun, I reckon you'll love it.

Except don't be a moderator in the Switchboard. Because you'll miss all that drama Flyboy was talking about, and spend your night hoping and wishing that someone forgets to add a topic summary for once so that you can justify your moderator status in at least that little way, only to find that everyone in Switchboard perfectly understands the need for a topic summary.

aww, hugs Fly, but why not have a bloody great set of do's and don'ts like some other boards have? A 'read this b4 you even think about posting' bit would surely eliminate some of your stress and workload (and give people some idea of where they stand so they can know what to expect from moderators).

what do you think the problems with this board are

Atm i am concerned that though Mod3 might perhaps do himself a favour by being a litte more Taoist and less jihad (to use a metaphor appropriate to his current whereabouts), we still have an allegation of misuse of moderator powers. But then, what, exactly, is to be defined as 'abuse' of moderator status? All I know is that stuff of mine's been deleted when I wish it hadn't and i feel bad about it, like my time's been wasted, my 'work' has been destroyed by someone else. It's not a very good feeling.
