Getting rid of was a good thing.
It's a law Thatcher brought in in the 1980s to ensure that homosexuality, as an issue, wouldn't be mentioned in schools. Because of its vague wording (what, exactly, counts as 'promotion'?) it was interpreted in a variety of different ways and, teachers, fearful of breaking the law, omitted discussion of homosexuality from sex education.
There's some evidence - albeit anecdotal - that it contributed to the higher suicide rate among gay/lesbian/bi teenagers.
Again, Scotland managed to get it (and yeah, it's actually Section 28) dropped a year or two ago now. |
