Hmm.. it seems that Rage wants me to describe to all of us viewers/listeners/old-school readers how much of her is Barbelith and how much of her is...uhm.."outside".
Well, currently we've seen Rage enter and leave the board on a few occasions but she didn't stay on here to build up a persona. Thus I'll be working with my memories of her previous forades into Barbelith-land in its prior incarnations....
I remember Rage coming off, from the written page, as somebody who has her own firm beliefs and who is emotionally involved in her discussions. In those old days I didn't really see that much of her posts so my perceptions of her were very limited and, I believe I can safely say, reflected the posts of somebody searching/trying to figure out how the world was interacting with them. It's a hard-perception to explain.
Today's Rage is a more mature Rage. While her Barbelith posts do come off as being childish at times (and not "childish" in a good way. I'm using the term "childish" to describe the negative behaviour of kids bickering over other people's actions without knowing the other people's motivations and/or the behaviour of kids on acting purely on emotion and ignoring otherstuff) and come off as hostile at other times, her real life persona is different. She's a person who is totally hyper and yet has the ability to sit down and talk and listen at will. She has a lot of energy and is like an open faucet of ideas and philosophies. She also underestimates some of her abilities. For example, she claims that she has no direction sense and yet somehow she manages to travel all over the continental United States without getting lost or stranded. She claims that it's hard for her to just sit down and listen and learn and yet after a conversation she'll suddenly make a reference to something spoken which reveals the depth of her listening and remembering. A small problem with her (and here is where I reveal my prejudices) is that she's vain. That she places vanity on a higher level of importance than comfort/survival. A great example took place in the middle of last February. Rage was in New York. The temperature was below zero... and she shaved her hair. And was wearing a short skirt. Not the smartest thing to do in the middle of a bitter cold winter.
So basicaly Rage is quite different from her Barbelith “persona” (is there one?) She comes off, in real life, as somebody who wants to do something and yet doesn’t realize the full potential of her abilities.
Uhm... yeah.
Monkey Out. |
