Epic!: The Crimson Dynamo

OK so the world and its wife have their opinion on Marvel's recent strategy with their Epic imprint of getting relatively unknown creators to package books for them.

But this week saw the publication of first issue of The Crimson Dynamo, one of the first Epic comics to feature largely unknown creators.

So - did anyone pick this up?

People who've sent pitches in were you tempted to see what got picked up.

and what di those who picked it up think?

So not even those who were excited by the opportunities offered by epic bothered to buy this title?

I think the problem for the Epic enthusiast comes from the fact that the author wasn't an unknown. Sure, they're not an established comic writer, but, as I understand it, they are a writer by trade.

Personally, I'm only interested in seeing what total unknowns can do. Yes, I know that's not supporting the great Epic dream, and I'm aware that the project has to be successful to survive, but...

If Dynamo gets some good press I'm sure I'll at least have a flick.

tell me something of this "crimson dynamo"...

back during the Cold War, he was sort of like the Soviet version of Iron Man.

Honestly, I heard it was very medicore, skimmed it in the store, didn't excite me, I'm trying to cut down so I don't spend upwards of $20 a week on comics every single week, so I skipped it.

MAN that's a god-awful logo! Who designed that shit?!?! You can barely see the word "Crimson" and that's one of TWO WORDS in the title. I'll probably read this in the store sometime in the next few weeks. Seems like despite the excitement of Epic, this title debuted and no one cared. I haven't heard a single enthusiastic response to it.

Interesting

I picked this up cos i was curious to see how the new epic deal will pan out (and its still very early days) - plus the concept could be great - Crimson Dynamo as a superhero equivelent of a WMD in the post Soviet era.

The story hasn't quite panned out that way - it looks like its headed into teenage-boy-to-aid-audience-identification territory, which is kind of dissappointing but hey, it's not my story. Anyhow The comic struck me as a good solid superhero comic - nothing spectacular, but nothing that made me feel ripped off either.

yawn - thing's buddy

I was appalled by this comic sleaze. I see an awful new wave of pure shite heading our way.

dunno - superheroes feel real crap just now.

I kinda think the fact it's set in Russia make it seem extra shit.

And a Russian Iron Man (Russian accented big guy: Da, Da is natural choice. We are all Iron Men anyway. Ha Ha Ha (cunt slaps your back at this point))just seems like such a retarded, simplistic way to go.

Epic seems to have got off to a rather flat and dull start.

I've still got my bautiful original Epic Elektras.

I may go and 'use' them to forget about how bad this comic is.

ps. must confess: didn't read it. couldn't. hurt. too. much.

Lol, yawn.

Of course, before I slag off a comic too vehemently I like to read it first. So then, has anyone elso read it?

My comic shop didn't even get it in.

I suspect all Epic comics will have to follow the brief of appealing to teenagers, which is what all Marvel new comics seem to be. Which is no bad thing, just not my bag.
