www.globalrichlist.com [Taken from the Guardian Online]

Launched on Monday, Globalrichlist.com is a new site, where all you do is input your annual wage and it shows you, in percentage terms, where you stand globally. The calculations, based on figures from the World Bank Development Research Group, are pretty astounding. According to the data, an average wage in the UK (£24,000) would put you just outside the top 1% of the world's earners.

The site reads: "We wanted to do something which would help people understand, in real terms, where they stand globally. And make us realise that in fact most of us (who are able to view this web page) are in the privileged minority."

Interesting idea, I'm up in the top 5.35% of the world, and I could probably afford to donate £11 to charity by a handy clickable button. But I'd like to know a bit more about Care International. They look alright from their webpage but does anyone have any info on them and their reputation? Yes I'm paranoid but *feh* hopefully I'll have no reason to be.

Fuck, man. I'm in the top 2.33%, and I earn a fuck of a lot less than most people I know. That's kind of an eye-opener.

I share your paranoia, al... but if it proves to be unfounded, they've got my donation.

They seem to have... well, a good enough reputation, but nothing exceptional:

Give.org

Charity Navigator

Though they appear to be pretty efficient with their use of money, I'm a little... alarmed by the $320K+ earned by their chief executive. Perhaps one of the charities recommended by the above sites or the American Institute of Philanthropy could be a more "worthy" recipient of the money?
