This is a chance for every one who is going on holiday to rub it in the faces of their working chums. Or do you live an extended holiday? Any holiday romances you want to tell us about? Am I turning into an early morning talk show host? Do tell.

I am on the G n T’s, washing clothes and listening to New Order’s back catalogue (currently on Power, corruption and lies) Flying to Turkey tomorrow, I am going to savour every day I am not at work.

Just spent a week and a half camping in the woods. Took in a pagan festival while I was at it. Got a new tatto, and met a lovely lady named Amethist who was looking for some company after a late night drum circle. Then its back to the grind until February, when a bunch of us are going to Vegas for a week for Sigfried, Roy, Penn, Teller, Circ de Solie, and legal prostitution. Joy!

I'm turning 30 on the 4th of October and flying to New Orleans for a week on the 8th. This will be the first time I've been abroad for twenty years (not counting Ireland). I'm so excited that every time I look at my guide book in an attempt to plan I have to go and lie down and take calm measured breaths. I'm going to see Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, the Mississipi! Eeeeee!

[Just off to lie down for a minute]

I'm also off to the US on the 4th to celebrate my birthday (I'm such a copier). My first trip across the pond too. New York for me though. Nice little town, so I hear.

I hope you've got someone who can show you the sights, Smoothly, because otherwise you can get really sick of being a tourist. Oh, and don't stay in the shitty youth hostel on Amsterdam and ???85th???. The lost the reservations for me and my sister so that we couldn't be accommodated in the same room, which meant I had to sleep above a pidgin-English-speaking Italian pervert for five nights. I probably would have been even more offended had I understood half of what he said.

Plus, Coney Island is apparently great.

just recently returned from a long over due visit home to hawaii. what can i say except that i went to the beach every day (oh how i love the pacific) and ate thai and japanese food till i was ready to explode. it was wonderfully relaxing. i'm leaving in october for a week in sofia, bulgaria...never been there. this will be my first trip to eastern europe and i am terribly excited as i'll get to see my hubby who has been away since june. in march/april next year we are planning a trip to either thailand or amsterdam...can't decide which of the two seems more fun. have been to thailand already so perhaps amsterdam is the place to go...

right now i am severely envious of cass's trip to New Orleans.

mixed blessing this, a month in india booked over xmas/new year.

which means *alot* of time with immediate/less immediate family. Explaining a)why i'm not married yet, and why my sis and bro-in-law have no kids. *probably* not mentioning that that the husband i'm meant to have could just as easily be a wife. And a month of my s-mum and dad.

buuuut, getting out of here for my first proper holiday in *four years*, and the three of us are insisting on some chilling time. so, a quiet beach, swimming, reading. rahhh. and i'm having a week on my own in Delhi.

Just me, wandering around Delhi doing whatever the fuck I like.

So raaaaaaahhhhh, basically.

Cheers for those tips WP. I'm going with my girlfriend who was there a couple of months ago and she seems to have sussed out the basics. We've booked into the Paramount hotel in Midtown (between Broadway and 8th Ave near Times Square) which some friends recommended so I'm hoping that'll be okay. It's the smoking thing I'm worried about. Where do New Yorkers go if they want to enjoy that rare and dangerous combination of a drink and a cigarette?

Coney Island is on the itinerary. Is the rollercoaster where Alvy Singer grew up still there?

In about a fortnight, I'm going down to Melbourne for about a week. Could be a bit uncomfortable, depending on how the emotional side of things goes, but I should enjoy - haven't been there for years. Just time not at work, seeing old friends... should be fun.

At the end of October, too, I'm having a five-day holiday for work. I have to write a travel story, and am going to the Whitsundays for a bit of a poke around. Two of the islands are where I'm going to be: Brampton and Long, IIRC.

Cass: niiiiice. Lucky thing. That's what I'm doing (more or less) for my 30th. Although at this point it involves videodrome, too. And cars. And walkie-talkies.

And smoothly: I think it was knocked down a couple of years ago. I seem to recall seeing photos of it being demolished.

Yep, it's true. The Thunderbolt's been gone since 2000.
