I got laid off a couple of months ago. It's cool, I've got a load saved up and could use the rest, to be honest. The problem is that I am still being screwed by my former employer.
I started the job as a temp and was quite happy to be working for two of the sharpest professionals I'd ever seen. They were clever, good bosses, and very nice to me. They hired me, gave me a cushy salary and I got a nice title as well. Then they left and the new boss is a confused, deluded and pretty openly messed in the head (constantly cleaning things and wringing out dollar bills, folding them, refolding them during a meeting and twitching is certainly a legitamate illness, but not something you want to see in the head of the company).
After a few months of this behavior and a lack of new revenue as well as the cancellation of vital meetings, I was all over any job hunting board I could find. I had a few interviews, but no dice. I had a few rudimentary problems with the job as well. I wanted a raise and my job description was basically to be the dustbin of responsibility.
Finally, a temp pushed that I should talk to my boss about my problems. I did and the result was an ultimatum from my boss. Be her bitch (assistant) and take a pay cut or leave. I left in no time flat, under the understanding that I was overqualified to be anyone's bitch and that my job was no longer viable. Fine. Unemployment, severance, vacation pay, and a nice contract job updating the website as sole webmaster in my spare time. Cool, eh?
The temp got my job, under my title. I'm to make the update to the site.
So, no earth-shattering, but I'd be interested in any advice on how to deal with this. I mean, when asked by a new employer "so why are you no longer at X?" I'll be saying that my job is gone. A click of the mouse and they can see it's still there, being done by someone else.
I've called them on this and am waiting a response, but what would you suggest, Barbelith? |
