Usually when I go to bed I sleep straight through till the morning, but occ. I wake up around 5 or so. Anyway, last night was one of those nights. I was dreaming as usual, nothing fancy, when suddenly in the dream a bee started to fly around me.
A word of explanation here: I'm scared of bees. Whenever one appears in my dreams it acts as a trigger that usually wakes me up. That is, whenever a bee appears I know I'm dreaming and I force myself awake.
But this time, upon awaking, I was bombarded with a bizarre rapid fire montage of images that seemed to be in front of my eyes when I opened and closed them (I kept them closed because I wanted to see where it was going). This montage consisted of what looked like white sheets of paper: On these sheets of paper were scientific illustrations of various species, starting with insects and then proceeding on to reptiles, mammals, humans, and then a shitload of bizarre species I've never even seen before (a few of which seemed almost Lovecraftian in design). This montage of scientific illustrations went on for about a minute before a new image appeared: It was basically a merry-go-round pinwheel thing spinning before my eyes, and on this spinning object there were designs that seemed both Native American and African (Dogon) in design: THese images for the most part looked like animals but there were some tribal drawings that looked like they could either be spirits or gods. All the while I knew I was awake and I was paying close attention to all this: THe colors were so vivid they hurt and I was intensly hyper-aware of what was happening.
I visualized my hands reaching out to touch the spinning wheel, and I saw my hands reach out and touch it, but they looked like they were transparent. Suddenly the spinning pinwheel shattered and I visualized myself falling towards a floor that was covered in nauseating kaliedescope-like designs, and I fell through this floor, which shattered. I gradually realized I was in control of what happened so I made myself zoom upward, until I found myself surrounded by a landscape of endless geometric patterns and shifting designs, again looking like a giant psychedelic kalidescope. By this point I was feeling ill so I forced myself out of it, forced my eyes open and rubbed them as hard as I could until the images faded away and I could see my bedroom clearly.
I eventually fell back asleep but it was tough as I had a dull headache after all this transpired. I know I probably wasn't really awake... Maybe it was lucid dreaming? But it did seem intensly real. Unless it was a hallucination, but I've never had one of those so I doubt it... Weird. |
