Haven't read Batman in years. Now I have reason to.

I was dying to see more Sienkiewicz.

I heard about this months ago from a friend of mine connected to DC and, as much as I wanted to leak it to Rich Johnston, held my tongue out of honor. It should be fantastic. Although part of me misses the days when a quality creative team was on a book for a while, they didn't just do "arcs". Then again, we've got Loeb & McGuiness doing a nice open-ended run on the surprisingly fun BATMAN & SUPERMAN, Greg Rucka saying he wants at least 2 years on his intruiging WONDER WOMAN, and Ed Brubaker's open-ended great writing on CATWOMAN. And we did get Morrison on JLA for 3+ years and now 3 years of Morrison NEW X-MEN, open-ended until recently.

Not completely convinced that Lapham can write a superhero story, but I'll sure as hell give it a try.

Gridley, did you read his take on the Matrix? Whilst it ain't superheroes, it is a dip into sci-fi, and an enjoyable one at that.

I suppose I just want this to be good; Love Stray Bullets loads.

I'm sure that before the launch of Stray Bullets many comics fans were not have thought Lapham could write any comic let alone a crime fiction comic as well regarded as Stray Bullets-

Lapham wrote a few issues of Harbinger way back in the early 90s. He may have written one of Shooter's Defiant comics too (but I can't remember).

I really think Sienkiewicz should dust off his, until now, bygone Neal Adams influences, can you imagine something better than that?

>Could it get any better?

Well yeah Bill could be doing more of his own stuff, his short in oni double feature was a lot of fun.
There are a lot of thing he could be working on...

I'm working on animation and concept work for Cyclops Entertainment, a Batman/Joker miniseries that I'll both write and illustrate, two series with my former partner in crime Frank Miller, a special limited edition hardcover version of Stray Toasters, published by Grafitti Designs, with the trade paperback version by Oni Press ...and working on a new comics series of my own. This was not a good time to switch to decaf!"

Lapham is a good if not riviting writer, so DC will probably have my money twice for the issues & collection. I hope they get a colourist who can work well with Bills linework. Sheri van Valkenbergs stuff mostly worked on batgirl/joker, better than their wolverine book which got a bit murky at times. Marvel team-up could have been worse when you look at other marvel comics but there are some b/w scans on jinxworld & graphiccollectibles.com that look so much clearer

And the Neal Adams influences are still there if you look for them, although I try not to.

I've been worried on this point. The world (being me) needs Stray Bullets more than it needs Batman. Of course, the world is hoping that Lapham can manage both.

He's sure managed to rivet me in the past. Dontcha just hate it when people present their opinions as objective fact?

Sorry, feeling grouchy today.

'Well yeah Bill could be doing more of his own stuff'

he has his own cocaine supply routes now? Sienkiewicz's sniff -

'switch to decaf', that's a euphemism

OK, what I have read of David Lapham I have personally found enjoyable enough but not hugely engageing. Happy now?

And I didnt mean to sound down on something just announced. New interesting creative collaborations are good. Im excited, yay! But damn you internet (& my compulsion to read news sites) for telling me so far in advance, far too long to wait.
