Antibiotics and Drugs

So spooks is on antibiotics over the weekend, and obviously she's not supposed to drink - we're told that alcohol prevents the safe drug from working properly. But what about party drugs, like pills?

Some advice would be appreciated...

Hi - not as far as I know. I remember being in a similar spot and those friendly peoplle at the National Drugs Helpline told me that I *really* shouldn't be doing pills anyway you know (in a lovely and none preaching way), and after a bit of badgering said it had no really bad adverse affects, but that obviously it wasn't a great idea to do it.

Try them yourself on 0800 77 66 00 and assuage your concerns!

Hmmmm... not sure I trust the Great Folks at the NDH for actual advice on this subject. Try again, someone?

I don't see any reason why not, can't think of why pills would interact with antibiotics. In general you can take most things with antibiotics, including booze with the majority, though not with some like the ones you've got here (and they always make sure to tell you).

I'm trying to remember whether I ever have, but I don't think so. I'd probably avoid them anyway if I was ill as I'm thinking they would have a stressing effect on the system.

Incidentally, did the NDH really tell you you shouldn't be taking pills at all? That's a fat lot of fucking good for a drugs information helpline.

Well, the NDH's main raison d'etre is prevent you taking illegal drugs at all. Hence the sneery skepticism.

Googling seems to indicate probably no interaction.

e.g. ecstacy.org, Oregon State U

I was looking through a few drugs ed sites and I had to share this (from an anti-dope "education" page)...

* Teens who use drugs are 5 times more likely to have sex than are those teens who do not use drugs

So this is going to stop teenagers taking drugs, is it?

what next?

"teenagers who use drugs are five times more likely to date glamour models than those who do not use drugs... "

I love that site. They manage to go through loads of reasons why people take drugs without mentioning "because they're fun".

I look on this stuff as media vaccination. It's great. By the time they grow up, US teenagers are going to be utterly immune to propaganda, having been exposed to such lame versions in their youth.

Um, I hate to be a killjoy, but even if there's no adverse interaction between pills and antibiotics, I'd still lay off the disco biscuits for a while-- at least till the infection has cleared up. Miss Spooky's immune system will thank her. (Wish you better, Spooks.)

Two questions:

A. What sort of infection is it?

B. What type of antibiotics are you taking?
