Looking for a subject....

Does anyone remember a thread about the ethical implications of first-person shooters? It was about karma and video games and artificial intelligence, and I can't find it.

It'd be nice if it was crosslinked from the Video Game Characters with a Soul thread I recently brought up in the Lab (the wiki "Back Links" function is brilliant that way). But I'm really looking for it for a story I'm writing about virtual humans.

Any help appreciated.

Ooo - found it.

Now, the curious thing is that it didn't turn up when I put in "first person" or "person" or even "shooters" or "shooter".

So I suppose I should now ask if there's a way to get the search function to identify word fragments or hyphens....

This made me curious so I had a quick look --

If you search for "first person shooters" on http://www.barbelith.com/underground/ it finds your thread, no problem. If you do it from the search box on forum pages it only searches that particular forum -- this may be why it didn't work, though you would have been passed to a page where you could have selected all forums for another go.

As far as I can tell, wildcards are theoretically possible though currently escaped, aren't they? They would be cool.

Maybe it didn't find it because I'd quoted "first person shooters".

Hmm.

I tried it yesterday with and without quotes, didn't make any difference. I think all that stuff is taken out of our hands by the machine.
