CV/Resume publishing

I've recently been aproached by a company offering to put my CV online as part of a website designed to bring potential employees to the notice of employers...

Now while part of me thinks - hey cool idea I also have a gut reaction of distrust. This would essentially be like publishing your details on the web in a one size fits all manner - surely one of the key skills in applying for a job is tayloring your CV/Resume to emphasize how well suited you are to the job, secondly, once its published, its out there - the company policy may change as to both updating your CV and how available it is made - what could be a list of quality employers one day could be anyone who has the cash tomorrow...

So what i am asking is has anyone here used such a service? good experiences? bad experiences? Am I being paranoid?

let me know...

my CV has been up on the internet pretty much since the start of 2001. And on more than one site. But those sites are dedicated employment/recruitment sites (you know stuff like jobsite, monster, cwjobs, mad.co.uk).

I wasn't approached to place my CV on them, just did as part of the greater getting a new job. And they do work, kind of.

You haven't told us sleaze what sort of company this is that has approached you with this offer, so can only give you advice on the experience I've had with these I've named above.

Your CV isn't just "out there" so to speak, there's not one page on the interent you'd be able to see my CV (unless you logged on as me that is). What happens in the case of those I'm with is that the industry/recruiters have their own side of the site and have access to my CV and contact details through that.

If you're worried about the different styles of CV you use for job hunting (something I've never done personally, maybe that explains the lenght of time I've been unemployed) then may I suggest you post more than one version to a site. Think up various job titles you'd like to be considered for and style the CV around that.

My last bit of advice is the best I can give: Don't pay for the service. There are plenty of places that offer this service for free and I too would be distrustful of having to pay for such a service.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know any good sites for advertising your wares as a freelancer, on a slightly connected note? For things like journalism and editing, and preferably free.
I considered putting myself up on smarterwork.com, as a freelancer, but it's a good few quid every month- not exactly what's wanted.
