You have now been officially invited to London's second FLASH MOB,
If you do not know what a FLASH MOB is then it can best be explained
as an inexplicable gathering of a group of people in a place for
a short period of time. Be sure to forward this note as quickly
as possible to other people you know who might like to join in.

(1) At some point during the day on Thursday August 21st synchronise
your watch by using the speaking clock or the following website :-
http://www.timeticker.com/main.htm

(2) by 6:10pm on the 21st and based on your star sign you should
locate yourself in one of the following bars and/or pubs. Buy a drink
if you like, act casual and don't stare too much at the Fruit
machines!

Taurus, Virgo
The Griffin, 9-11 Villiers St WC2N 6NA, watch that Fruit Machine
(Corner of York Place & Villiers St)

Aries, Leo
Tattersalls Castle, Kings Reach, Victoria Embankment SW1A 2HR
head for the Bow.
(next to the River Bank and embankment tube station)

Gemini, Capricorn, Libra, Sagittarius
Royal Festival Hall balcony , street level overlooking thames/Queens
Walk and Fruit machine free
(on the River, Belvedere Road SE1 8XX )

** If you are one of the following star sign groups then you will
also need to bring an umbrella with you, and no, you will not be
doing anything daft with it. **

Cancer
Marquess Of Angelsey, 39 Bow Street WC2E 7AU. Avoid eye contact with
the Fruit Machines.
(Corner of Russell St & Bow Street + Umbrella)

Scorpio
Wellington, 351 Strand WC2R 0HS.
(Corner of Wellington St & Strand + Umbrella)

Pisces
George IV, 28-30 Portugal Street WC2A 2HF
(Corner of Portsmouth St & Portugal St + Umbrella)

Aquarius
The Edgar Wallace, 40 Essex Street WC2R 3JF
(Corner of Essex St & Devereux Court + Umbrella)

(3) At some point a MOB rep will make themselves known, appear and
pass out further instructions. Read the instructions carefully and
then hide the piece of paper about your person so that it can not be
seen.

(4) These final instructions will provide the destination of the MOB
site, and you should arrive at that destination at the time that it
states. Aim to get there on time, if you are early, stall, if you are
late hurry! although no one will need to rush.
(NOTE: THIS MAY BE A SLIGHTLY EARLIER TIME THAN BEFORE)

(5) The instructions will contain everything you need to know and
MOST importantly the time to leave the MOB site by. The dispersal is
just as important to the success of this MOB as is the arrival.
Everyone should leave as quickly and orderly as they can and truly
disperse.
PLEASE DO NOT LOITER , ENSURE THE SUCCESS AND PROMPTLY LEAVE,
KEEP YOUR INTERVIEWS WITH THE MEDIA TO A MINIMUM AND NO RE-
ENACTMENTS

(6) After the Flash MOB, carry on with your lives as per normal, await
instructions for Flash MOB #3 in September.

(7) At all times remember that a MOB is just fun.

(8) There is no step eight.

Still confused, surf on over to

i wasn't so impressed with the last one that i have the time or inclination for another, but i have spread the word in my local area - people still seem quite excited about this.

I might pop along- seconds are usually more fun than firsts. Thursday's a bad day for it though.

at biroco.com he's moaned about there being like two flashmob gangs operating in london, like an exo and an eso one. naturally he prefers the eso, apparently their gathering was silent, flashy and (intentionally) got no coverage because they organised it too well - but what do we think? has anyone heard that there's two flashgangs trying to out-situationist each other?

i think his point is more that these type of events - initially a great idea, get recuperated by the media, advertising etc real quick, a panel of eperts/spokesmen/media whores is appointed and tries to make a few quid before it disappers as everyone chases after the next big thing.

See Ausgust 8th and 11th entires.

I actually was at the the other event on the the 9th though, and it was fucking great. I have no idea when/where the next one will be but I wish them all the best.

It sounds like it was fun but I'm liking the choice of location less and less. I mean, there's not anything particularly surreal about a crowd at Somerset House and it would be far too appreciated. Is the point not to have people turn up in weird places to do unusual things? They should be able to do far better and I don't even believe this should be used in a political sense.

Perhaps the problem is that London's not built for this kind of thing or rather that anywhere you go the Flash Mob's aren't going to be particularly odd.

Here are pics of another bit of it, on Hungerford bridge, last night. There's a rather more verbose thread on it here. (It seems U75 think that these are just poshoes wasting their time and everyone else's.)

(edited 'cos i wuz initially under the impression the Somerset Hse and Hungerford Bridge ones were separate)
