More last minute birthday drinks - Fri 22 August

I just realised last night that it's actually my birthday on friday - I guess haven't been watching the calendar that closely. Anyway, I'll probably be celebrating this by going for a drink on friday night. I haven't decided where yet but will post something up later - will be somewhere in central London. If anyones about on friday it would be great to see you.

It would be a pleasure and a delight to go for drinks with you on Friday to celebrate m'dear!

I didn't have to go to Leeds after all and I am looking forward to a quiet and restful long weekend. So may as well kick it off in good style.

Let us know the details soon!

I can't make it as I have a cocking wedding to go to on the cocking Isle of cocking Skye. Just annoyed cos I have no money and have to fly up and schmooze with family all weekend. But we should meet for beers etc. soon.

I always imagine the Isle of Skye being this sort of cloud city type place, but I'm sure it's nothing like that. A bit like the Isle of Dogs, Catford and Wolverhampton, they were a big dissapointment as well.

No, GL, the Isle of Skye is perpetually overhung by great, gloomy clouds full of freezing rain about to fall or already falling. There are only three people there and several million sheep. Like a mini New Zealand with shit weather. A friend of mine was up there for a wedding last weekend and she said they were still waiting for Spring.

The locals call it Eilean a' Cho (or Island of Mist, apparently). It is disappointing unless you really like that kind of thing. It's a good job Illmatic is a hardy chiel who will cope with climatic adversity.

Happy Friday. Happy piss up. Happy Birthday!

Well, even with the rain, it's certainly got to be better than Catford.

As this is very short notice and loads of people are away, I've decided to graft my own birthday drinks onto the birthday drinks of a bloke I used to work with who is also celebrating on friday. Gives me a chance to catch up with a load of people I havent seen for awhile, and reduces the unpleasant possibility of an empty pub gypsy-no-mates scenario.

So the venue for friday is the 'Citie of York' pub on Holborn. (I'm not sure how to edit the topic abstract to reflect this - will post up a map later today). If anyone is about on friday, drop by and laugh as I foolishly attempt to drink 28 pints of guinness with candles stuck in them.

Happy birthday when it arrives, Gypsy Lantern - I'd love to come, but can't cause I'm meeting the in-laws that night. Gulp.

Well, it definately won't be Gypsy-no-mates! I promise I will be there in celebration mode!

So yes Gypsy-rella you will go to the ball! (apologies to Cinderella and sundry other fairy tales!)

A map would definately be handy and we'll see you there!

I can't make it, sorry, but have a glunk jish fwut, and other new trendy buzzwords I just invented.

I've moved to have the topic abstract modified, although I got the spelling of "Cittie" wrong...

The Cittie of York, for anyone going for it, is at 22 High Holborn - a fair way further along than the Princess Louise, but same basic directions. Map here. Nearest tube is Chancery Lane, but you could walk it from Holborn. Lawyer pub, but nothing wrong with that.

I will try to make it along for a bit - will be hampered by having to trail out to West Ham for a battery for a laptop I am going to have to send back to have another 256MB of RAM shoved into *anyway* - frassin rassin couriers...

cheers for that

Lawyer pub, but nothing wrong with that.

Aye, venue isn't really my choice, just figured it would be less hassle to annex somebody elses birthday drinks plans instead of organising something seperate myself.

That was a bit silly - I managed barely to speak to birthday boy - was all hot and tired and bewildered and by the time I gathered my wits he was gone (in the cellar, apparently). So, sorry about that, Lantern, and happy birthday - hope you had a lovely.

Well it's all Sam Smith's bastard hangover fuckery this morning. Thoughtful of them to distill essence of Brock Lesnar F5 table slam into every glass for me.

Great to see everyone, I must apologise for my elusiveness though - I planned on going to the cellar briefly to say hello to various people I used to work with that were there - but it all seemed to take a lot longer.

I did re-surface but it was all too late and the barbelith contingent had thinned out before I had a chance to drunkenly gibber on about whatever nonsense was in my head. I guess I'm no good at navigating feindishly constructed multi-level structures such as the Cittie of York, it was a bit like Bruce Lee in Game of Death but with lager instead of nunchakas. Thanks for coming along.
