I thought I was imagining this, but I seriously cannot log out of Barbelith on my work computer. I mean, I can log off & it says "You have been logged out." But the next time I go to Barbelith, I am logged in.

I have:
*deleted history files
*deleted temp files
*restarted browser
*restarted computer

I would obviously like not to be permanently logged into Barbelith at work.

Mom always said I'd get stuck like this, if I didn't cut it out.

Can you delete your cookies? That should do it.

Interesting. I used to know how to do this - and how to run scan disk, and defrag, and so on, but how the heck do you do it on XP? (I've had XP for a week and am still floundering)

I'll watch how this thread develops with great interest. Good luck, P, I totally understand. In fact, I'm a bit freaked by the number of internet cafes where i thought I'd logged out, and didn't go back and check. If I start saying anything out of character, that's my excuse.

What browser are you using at work?

Well, I use Ontrack Internet Cleanup, but you can do it manually by finding your cookies folder and deleting everything in it... I use Mozilla, which has a cookie manager built into the browser, but I don't think IE does - IE seems in general designed to make it very hard not to accept cookies.

It's some version of IE for Windows. It doesn't have a thing for deleting cookies, like in preferences or anything. So okay, I have to look for the cookies folder. Something fun to do on Monday.

If I start saying anything out of character, that's my excuse.

If I start sounding like a whiny bitch, that's my boss.

See? That's why I have to be logged out.

Just do a search on "my computer" or "c" - you'll probably get two if it's Windows, one of which will be full of little text files, which you can delete at will.

'Seph: Whilst loggin out, have you possibly had another window of Barbelith in the process of loading at the same time?

Me and Lurid Archive share a PC. I sometimes have trouble trying to log out of his account and into mine; if I have another page of Barbelith loading when I hit "log out", I see the "you have been logged out" message, but when I go to log in as me, the computer tells me that I'm logged in as Lurid. Took me ages to suss out what was happening.

Right Click on your my computer icon and explore. Provided you aren't on a shared network with decentralised profiling your cookies should be deletable from C/Windows/Temp Internet Files and C/Windows/Cookies if the cookies option was set up.

Delete all that is in either of these folders.

If you networks does a decentralising thing then click on Start Button and select find. Opt to seach in my computer and type in 'barbelith' and hit the go button. This should bring up the offending article. This route takes a little longer but still as workable. From here you will wannt to check the file path and stick that in your windows explorer so that you can get to the folders that need emptying.
