For me, global climate change comes top (potentially world destroying),

Corporate/economic rule of the world by the rich and powerful

Linked into this is the attitude that gathering lots of money is the way to happiness or increased social status, especially in the western world.

Air conditioning, I think. The way that, as a result of massive and unconsidered burning of fossil fuels, temperatures are rising, and the response is to demand systems that lower the local temperature while demanding yet more electricity and thus yet more burning of fossil fuels (nobody seems to have thought to take advantage of all this sunny weather by sticking up enormous fucking solar panels) and - you guessed it - further warming, and a surprising number of fatalities in countries that don't have fucking air-con as a number one priority.

Christ, why not just go the whole hog and force poor people to fan you at gunpoint until they die of exhaustion?

The growing US superpower's foreign policy, then the looming eco-armageddon, then overpopulation, then my current poverty stricken state.
Why are people so shortsighted? Why do they buy huge SUVs? Why are we trapped in a consumer culture that will destroy us?
I work in transport and I often get people complaining there are too many cars on the road, which is inconvenient because they can't drive to their destination quickly enough. IN THEIR CAR! HELLO? HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THE IRONY?!
Let me revise my answer to simply "The human race".

where to start?

Possibly with the idea that if things continue the way they're going for a little while longer, the populations of Western Europe and North America really will be "the unwitting commandants of concentration camp Earth". Assuming we're not already.

The utter failure of any serious challenges to the two party system in the Western world meaning that, even with our current excuse for a democratic system dying a long, drawn out death, nobody's really got it together to assemble a suitably large-scale and organised progressive political opposition, and we're still only really left with a choice between reactionary violent moron government and ineffectual complacent greed government.

The fact that hopes of the world being reorganised in a manner slightly more in keeping with my own ideals and beliefs are slipping further and further away, as mindsets I consider destructive and ignorant and wrongheaded become ever more deeply ingrained, and ever harder to overcome..

How does that look? Am I being too general here?

I will go with love in the very broad sense, encompassing all manner of similar emotions. And for me, the valuable thing is the love I feel, not the love others to me.

I don't think the any world is worth much without it.

I'm in favor of the environment, though.
