How good is the new Tigerbeat6 comp called open up and say...@<%_|^[!]?

So good that I turned my amp up to five for the first time ever (that's very loud, normally I play music on only two or three), causing one of the speakers to vibrate off it's usually very sturdy stand, leading me to dive off the sofa and catch it in mid fall, unfortunately spilling the drink I still had in my hand all over my nice cream sofa (staining it in the process) and then dropping the speaker anyway, denting it's lovely mahogany veneer and cracking the baffle at the front.

I'd be really annoyed if it was any other CD. But if any CD is going to be responsible for a stained sofa and a trashed Kef, I'm happy that it was this one. It's that good.

So what does it sound like? Well since every track is great, but stand out tracks in my opinion are Knifehandchop's mutant chunky dancehall gabba, Cex's fantastic electro-space-trash number, Dwayne Sodahberk's "Partying without Inhibition or Dignity" with a lovely saw-tooth bass and a harsh electro beat, Max Tundra's two takes on glitch-R&B, and, oh fuck it, everything else too. An exceptional package of inventive and tuneful post-glitch electro-pop.

So, anyone-else heard what I'm raving about here?

Haven't got anything that coherent to say except;

er, yes, I too am liking all this Tigerbeat 6 stuff very much.

I like pretty much everything I've heard that they've put out - they strike a nice balance between trendiness and utter fucking madness..

Kid 606 never fails to make a glorious racket..

Stars As Eyes make fantastic, almost shoe-gazy electro-noise soundscapes which I'm pretty fond of..

I actually prefered Cex when he was doing his ISM/glitchtronica stuff - 'oops i did it again' is great. His hip-hop stuff is OK I guess, but it's not exactly blastin' my scene, y'know..

Definitely the best thing I've heard on Tigerbeat tho is 'Hooker Leg' by Crack (We Are Rock) .. it's just an astonishing track, I've listened to it numerous times and I still don't know what the hell is up with it - always a sign of something good. On one level it's like a sleazy electro-clash thing built around a sampled guitar riff and some Chicks on Speed type weird female vox.. but somehow it's just horrible and scary and obscene and not right and becomes more so as it goes on.. it's like electroclash goes all David Lynch. Worth downloading/buying/hearing/whatever.

I saw the Kid play a couple of months ago, and it was pretty damn groovy, even if he did just stand behind his laptops for about an hour and a half scarcely moving a muscle.

Erase Errata and the Numbers are both all kinds of radness, too.

Yeah I've got that CD, there's definitely something unsettling about it, even if to my ears it just sounds like a horrible sub-Peaches racket. Which is no bad thing either.

RE: Cex - I'm not sure about "oops I did it again", I like it, but... I don't know, it sounds like he was at that Aphex Twin stage that all electronic bedroom musicians go through within a year of buying their first sampler, not bad as such, but not having developed their own style yet. Whereas his new stuff definitely strikes me as a move towards the idiosyncratic.

RE: Kid606 - I love his stuff, which says something about how good this new comp is, since I barely even noticed his track amongst all the other gems. I've seen him play live three times, and each time rocked in a way that the world at large probably isn't ready for yet.

Pig - Buy your own copy you student-style blagging scum! It's only a fiver, so there's no excuse! Or if you really are that shameless, PM me yer addy and I'll post you a burn...

DAMN IT! I don't believe it! Same CD, now at a very sensible volume, same track, and the bloody speaker takes another plunge, this time cracking what was left of the veneer at the top and completely taking the baffle away from the front... I can see the guts inside my speaker! WAAAAH! That nasty punk-rocker bully Kid606 has completely trashed my (once) beautiful speaker!

>Has anyone heard the TB6 comp Wrong Application? It's some of the usual cats making horrid noises by doing thinds like opening up text files as audio files, sampling and sequencing the resultant skrreeeeggghhhooottparrulllghhhs into awesome speaker detonating songs. I highly reccomend.

The first track off Kid 606's Down With The Scene does some serious stereo damage. I think it's pure data rendered as a sound that was never meant to be heard. Cheeky fucker. Havn't heared this comp yet. Nice to hear it getting a good reaction.

Just saw him live in Chicago. Gotta say I was unimpressed, though it was still a fun show. He's gotten a bit lame.

I'm currently digging the works of Tigerbeat recording artiste Donna Summer, who's stuff seems to kinda mix thmupin' house type beats with lo-fi white noise explosions, weird scratching and absolutely gratuitous steals from 80s powerpop.. hmm, sounds good..

Cool, my post follows a Fall ballet. I know I'm in the right forum here.

Isn't the Crack WAR track "Sabbath" on Open Up... fantastic? Their album's worth getting, I take it?

Can't wait for new Erase Errata album (heard a few tracks, two of which are actually on the Tigerbeat6 split single) and hopefully, Numbers should be right around the corner.

John Peel's been playin tracks from Paws Across America 2003 (though the promo copy I saw says its "paws across the world", so take your pick which is right, Tigerfans), which seems to have Kid606, Dwayne Sohdaberk and Dynasty on it, among others. Sounds like a necessary purchase, Tigerfriends.
