A 'shout out' also goes to the google talk stuff. No-nonsense chat software and you can use it from inside your gmail account on your webbrowser. You need a gmail account tho, which means there are a lot less people around on it.
Googletalk is based on Jabber for what it's worth, so also works through GAIM on Linux. Though it's not nearly as nice as the Googletalk client on Windoze, I have to admit.
Googletalk doesn't do conference calls yet, but the web interface means it's usable everywhere.
Skype also makes for a nice enough IM client as well as the very good VOIP (telephony) and videophone service. I tend to use both the above, sometimes simultaneously. |
