It's just like pokemon isn't it.

Actually this is pretty close to a less altruistic, more insidous idea I had a while back, which is to construct an on-line spirit house in virtual space to try and entice a few of the forgotten chaos magic servitors that are no-doubt floating around in cyberspace with no purpose to serve. Think how many group servitors there are that have been created over the internet. Think how many of these artificial spirits, given the fly-by-night tendencies of chaos magicians, have been forgotten and abandoned in a virtual world. Imagine a machine that could draw these beings inside of it and set them to work in unison - handling whatever series of tasks you programmed into the software. All that's needed is competancy in Flash and the magical know-how. Imagine what could be done! You and I could build this machine! It's alive! ALIVE!

You know, that's a really good idea. I'm sure one or two of these guys will come in handy.

Also liking Gypsy Lantern's concept of an online spirit-house. Wonder how you'd do it, exactly...?

Okay... having perused the database a little, I've a couple of comments.

One is that not all of these seem to be servitors. Some of them look like jokes or just random thoughts. It may be that the individuals concerned just aren't that great at communicating, or they may be hijacking the database to get their all-important truths out to the sheeplike masses etc etc chiz moan drone.

Another is that I got serious chills just looking at a couple of the sigils for these little dudes. I don't know if the servitors in question started out as perfectly nice little critters and went septic, or if the creators made them for some purpose other than the one stated.

Bear in mind that you've only got the creator's word that the servitors here do what it says on the tin. You don't know the people involved, you don't know what methods they might have used to create the servitors, or what their true intentions are. Even a good servitor can sometimes turn nasty over time.

If you're planning to use an open source servitor, conduct a little divination first. This is a must before any magickal working but it's particularly important here.

You'd need to work out some form of virtual bait to draw them in, and you'd need the structure of the website arranged as a kind of contraption - perhaps maze-like - and with various safeguards to keep troublesome servitors in line. Some method of interacting with them, possibly a ouija board type java thing to pass messages to them, a Flash mechanism to reward them, and suchlike. I'm fairly sure I could figure out a way to get it working magically, but my web skills are limited to dreamweaver and photoshop at the moment. Something like this needs more flexibility and control.

Agree with you on the errant servitors thing. All sorts of problems inherent in using servitors from an open source database without being able to verify their source and programming. But I think if you approached this same idea using the spirit house model you could conceivably build something clever into the structure of the website that would dilineate, control, make use of these creatures' power regardless of how tetchy and problematic they might be to work with in the standard sense.
