Anyone read Matrix Warrior, by Jake Horsley, published in the UK ?
I'm in the middle of it and it's mostly gnostic ideas disguised as a Matrix tie-in.
ok, Matrix is in itself gnostic working anyway...
Now, is it first or second degree ?
not that it's so important...

I could't finish it.

Its a really badly written book. (IMHO)

well, one could argue about the litterary quality of Crowley's work, but you know...
I agree nonetheless about Horsley...

Ok. The problem with Matrix Warrior is the same proble a lot of people seem to have with Reloaded, it falls beteen to two caps of Action and Philosiphy satisfying neither.

My critisism of Matrix Warrior is its tone is too "Preachy" theres a aura of smugness about the book. As someone who classes themselveles as widely read on the occoult area the only thing I know is that I dont know enough. Gnostsism is fine it has some intresting idead worthwile ideas behind it, as does everting,, from Christaianty to Satanism. Martix Warrior takes these ideas and non too subtly forces them down the throat of the reader as "The one true way"

Matrix Warrior is a male version of "The cute and freidny teenage wiccan" books that line the sheles of Borders.
If you know a litte about the occoult then it tells you nothing new.

Save your money folks.

I wouldn't expect the book to be that illuminating, nor even entertaining. I've read the stuff the auhtor has, or had, on his web-site, and when I saw the book it didn't even pass through my mind getting it.

He has one or two nice essays, one is The Matrix As Shamanic Journey, and something about cinema (extracted from a whole book on cinema). Other title-promising essays (Synchronicity and Reality Manipulation) are terribly over-convoluted.

MOO! No topic abstract! Bad cow! Bad cow!

I'll skip my usual 24 - 48 hour deadline for objections and I'll put in a topic abstract right after I finish typing this up.

Anyways, in the September 2003 Fortean Times (#173) there's an interview with Jake Horsley done by Elizabeth Wu. Jake comes off sounding pompous and I too get the "My way is the only way" vibe from him. My own personal guess is that this is all a stupid publicity stunt. I haven't read the books yet so I can't have a definite opinion but the interview makes him out to be someone who is into the commodity of the New Age market. Someone who doesn't care if it works or not as long as he can profit riding a wave of hype. I'm not saying that's what he is (cause I haven't read the books!) but that's the vibe I get from the interview (which might've been edited to give off that pompous bastard feeling.)

Is the "God Game", the same book that has Arthur Machen in it - and a mythical cult not unlike the Golden Dawn?????? Matrix has its word-roots in a matrist-supra-imposed reality i.e. not unlike myths of SpiderWoman as Creatrix, from Native American Indian and Micronesian mythos. Or simply put, LADY SOUL OF ALL ILLUSIONS..... (Maya)
