I am SO getting laid off

so, i work for Company X.

rumors have been flying around that Company X is about to be bought out by Company Y for weeks. if this happens, i will be laid off, probably sooner rather than later.

however, the upper management of Company X have been very tight-lipped and no-commenty about the whole thing, so it's been hard to tell for sure what the deal is.

that is, until a guy on my team called someone in another department entirely and asked him what he knew about the rumors.

the guy from the other department said:

"dude, there's a guy from Company Y sitting right next to me. i'm spending today training him to use our systems."

i guess that confirms it, eh?

this will probably work out well for me, actually. it's just a really funny way to find out...

That's pretty much what happened at our place a year or so back... and we found out through a leaked e-mail that we weren't supposed to see. Basically, we all joined unions, argued like fuck and made sure anyone who DID get laid off got a pretty decent pay-off.

(It was all such a disaster, various members of senior management are no longer with us. But I kept my job! Hah! Fuck with me , will they?)

Hope it all goes okay. Just don't let 'em fuck you about.

sorry to hear that...

You should be keeping an eye out for potential jobs in the meantime anyway. Nice to know that you have some sort of back-up when you may need it. This goes the same for when you have a job you like; it's informative and nice to have options.

Best o' luck...

Gee, diz - i'm sorry. it fuckin' sucks that this kind of thing has become SOP. Had the same shit happen to me in my first fulltime job. found out the wednesday before my contract was due to be renewed that it wasn't going to be renewed. no surprise, but fuckin' rude all the same. especially the video the parent company (who bought another company that did the same thing as us and then fired everyone in the first company they owned) made us watch, which was about how wonderful all the changes were going to be, and how the head of the company wasn't worried about her job at all.

on the bonus side, because they were closing up the office, i felt no problems at all in running off 100 copies of my zine on their copier, and nicking a bunch of dictionaries and stuff.

i can't really go into more details until the news goes public. but, based on what a number of recently laid-off people got, i should be getting a pretty generous severance package, which works out really well with my long-term plans, so i'm not too-too nervous.

thanks for all the support...
