Anyone seen this article. What do you feel? Good, bad? Rewriting history?

pointless and uncalled for

It's hard to say whether or not they should have made the changes.

A couple of issues involved are a) As a tribute to the dead and those that have worked at gound zero, do statues of specific people have any place? And b) Given circumstances would members of other ethnic groups not have risen the flag in the same manner?

the difference here is i think on between narrative and documentary, or perhapd history and art.

Statues are not strictly faithful historical documents - lets face it a rich patron is paying you to do their sculpture- you arn't going to make him look as ugly as he really is are you?

The rage this provokes among the families of the firemen is also specially interesting when it is viewed in contrast with the prevelence in american cinema to produce self congratulatory yet frequently historically inaccurate narratives.

Haus about we all give each other a big lovely huggle?

I'd go with a) in particular. Are peopel protestng that thise particualr three firefighters are not being cast in bronze, which seems like sometrhing of an ego trip? And if they are to be generic - not recognisably particular people - why make them all white? If they are about the resistant spirit of New York, surely that spirit is multi-coloured?

Seems like political correctness gone sane..

seems entirely sane, quite right! had it been down to me, I'd have gone a step further and there'd have been a gorgeous firefighting woman too, with sensible shoes.
but it's really none of my business...
