Read this in Fortean Times yesterday... unfortunately it doesn't seem to have made it to their site yet, so I can't post a link.
Apparently, William Cooper, the famed UFOlogist and far-right nutter, died in a police raid in November. At first, I thought "oh shit, I really don't want that prick to have been RIGHT ALL ALONG"... then I read the account of what happened, and it doesn't look too much like a Ruby Ridge/Waco style thing at all... more a case of a cantankerous old bastard shooting a cop who came to his house. The accounts written by two people who knew him don't seem to contradict this too much, either- even the one "in his defence" described it as "federal neglect" rather than a silencing operation.
I was more worried when Jim Keith died, to be honest... that did seem fishy.
Anyone got any more information on this? I read a pamphlet that was a transcription of a very "beginning plausibly, ending MAD, and no less entertaining for that" lecture he gave once, and heard the lecture on tape, and I know "Behold a Pale Horse" was kind of him dipping his toes into the shitty world of anti-Semitism (as far as I know he later went for full-body immersion), but not much else, other than he sounds a very unpleasant man.
So. Any more info/comments?
