I just went to see this and thought it was amazing- it's a movie about a young East German guy whose ardently communist mother slips into a coma just before the fall of the Wall, then wakes up some months later, just as East and West Germany are about to reunify. Though she recovers consciousness, her health is still fragile enough that the slightest shock may kill her, and so her son is forced to conceal the collapse of communism from her in various cunning ways.
This film somehow manages to seamlessly combine slapstick and heartfelt emotion- very impressive indeed. Anyone else see it? If you have, do you think she twigs at the end. (not a spoiler) |
