Got this is a free screenings e-list I'm on, you have to go to www.firstmovies.com and sign up for the list but they come up with the occasional good film.
But anyway the details are,

Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki
10th August
London

It's is a wonderful bit of anime by the creator of Princess Mononmoke and Kiki's Delivery Service. I've seen pictures from it and it looks gorgeous.

Go on take the freebie, the good thing about this is that it's probably getting a cinema release of some description if they've started plugging it. How wide a release is still open to question though.

More info might turn up at www.nausicaa.net, but theres nowt there at the moment.

Go enjoy yourselves see if I care *sniff*

I've seen it, and yes, you mustmustmust go and see it. I'm not around on that day.

Only problem - it's probably a dub; I saw a pretty good sub in November.

I'm not sure how free it is, they say on the site you can win tickets so I'm not sure how good your chances are depends on how many they have I guess.

I've got the dub at hope and it's not bad at all, better than usual at least.

Think it's a draw, you ask for one or two tickets and then they hand them out at random if there are too many people and too few tickets. I've always got a ticket if I've booked early enough.

And looking on the site it's an English version that the screening is for but...

'Spirited Away' will be released in two versions in the UK: Japanese with subtitles and English language. It will open on September 12th.

So it's all good.

I urge anyone who hasn't seen this movie to see it at the earliest opportunity. Even if that involves buying a mutli-region DVD and an American copy. Your life is not complete without it.

Honestly, the dub isn't bad. I've seen it both ways and if it's the only way to see the film, you're not missing anything by catching the dubbed version. It's a near-exact transfer of the subbed dialogue.

But Christ - the UK is only getting this now? What a crock.

Neil Gaiman had a hand in the script for the dubbed version didn't he? Or did I dream that?

Gaiman only did Princess Mononoke's dubs as far as I know.

There's another offer for free tickets on the same website 2 per person, all you have to do is print out a page and take it too certain cinemas.

Maybe we should have a Barbemeet to see this?

Haven't seen this yet, but I wanted to bring to everyone's attention that the director, Hayao Miyazaki, is going to be directing an anime movie of Diana Wynne Jones's novel Howl's Moving Castle (scheduled for release next summer), about which I am so excited I could pee. (Details, such as they are, are here.)

Oh my.

OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUSNESS.

Howl's Moving Castle. I may die.

Saw 'Spirited Away' at the weekend and it is unutterably wonderful - everyone must go! I must go again, in fact. There was something marvellous in every single second. I think I must have spent the entire two hours with a stupid grin plastered all over my face and I wanted to see it again straight afterwards.

Felt rather sorry for No-Face, but even he found his niche in the end...

Yeah I saw that his next movie was going to be Howl's Moving Castle is this a good thing then? The book does seem to have allot of fans but people were worried about him changing to a more western look for it.

OH MY GOD!

Saw this film finally last night and I almost had to be carried out of the cinema after overdosing on cuteness. And none of that Disney cuteness this was Japanese Anime cuteness, straight into the vein .

I was halfway between gobsmacked wonder and being absolutely terrified for most of the film, Grandma just gave me the fear, let alone No-Face or the Giant Baby, Eeek!.

But then there were the Soot beasties and the spirits and the mouse and the little crow and well just everything. And some of the Animation, some of the scenes over the water were mesmerising, it was just a very beautiful film all over. Did I mention the dragon yet? They had a Dragon in it and it was brlliant!*bounce bounce*

Not to mention that the dubbing was the best I've ever heard, better even than Princess Mononoke, I didn't even notice it while I was watching, John Lassiter (of toy story fame) what a hero .

Big old cheesy grin on my face when I came out of it, go and see this film it will lift your whole day.

I just got the film on DVD it was on sale for £4.99 at HMV a bargin.

Its so good to see animation that is not done in the usual disney way, it was like traveling to a parallel universe of animation.

Thats not meant to be an insult to disney/pixar and the usual westen stuff, but I am just so bored by the animations that we get over here. Pixar do make a few good ones, but its still all just the same story lines, same characters, same comedy, same emotions etc... its like eating at Mcdonalds.

Sometimes I like the odd cheese burger, but if I eat Mcdonalds to often it makes me puke. I don't want to rot this thread into a anti disney rant, but It was so refreshing to see Spirited Away. Its a film that has been made as a great piece of cinema animation, not as a marketing vehicle to flog the public a soundtrack, cudley toy, t shirt, happy meal and computer game.
