It sounds like Morrison will be doing something other than one of the regular Superman titles, but that's still pretty damn cool. It's probably even better, really. I'm not exactly sure why, but I fucking love Superman, even thought the comics are usually bollocks, and the thought of Morrison doing a Superman comic makes me all kinds of excited.

I want GM to do a Superman comic.

But Azz?

I like Azz, but his Superman would be beating the crap out of gangbangers and child molesters. Every other word would be f*ck. Every fourth word would be n*gga.

I LOVE 100 Bullets. But Supes? Naaaaawww.....

According to Newsarama, the other writers will be Greg Rucka and Chuck Austen. No mention of Morrison.

Morrison is mentioned in a different article (http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4798) as doing a Superman project, so he'll probably have at least a mini. I'm happier about that, I just don't think Superman works as a character, except in alternate versions like Miracleman or Dr. Manhattan, where real change can happen to the character. However, I'd love to see Morrison prove me wrong.

(off topic nitpicking)

Dr. Manhattan was based on Captain Atom (all the characters in Watchmen were originally going to be the ones DC had just acquired from Charlton,or whatever the company was called- Rorschach=The Question, Nite-Owl=Blue Beetle, etc). Miracleman, as far as I know, is an "alternate version" of Captain Marvel.

I guess you could argue that all extremely powerful superheros are alternate versions of Superman to some extent, and DC actually won a lawsuit against the original publishers of Captain Marvel to that effect, but I don't think that either character was intended to be simply an alternate version of Superman.

None of this really undercuts the thrust of your argument, however.

I thought that Superman worked quite well as a character...

In Supreme.

I was talking about this yesterday, and I think it'd be great if someone like Azzarello did a retro Superman where he was, like, fighting *gangsters*.
Like he used to. Isn't that the point? I mean, if you can't keep the streets of Metropolis safe from ne'er-do-wells, then what good ARE you?

Ok...Chuck Austen has just announced he is the new writer on Action Comics...so we have Azzarello/Lee on SUPERMAN....Greg Rucka/TBA on THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN....Chuck Austen/TBA on ACTION COMICS.....what SUPERMAN titles are left?? What about MAN OF STEEL?? I really hope they give that one to Morrison/Quitely or alot of fans are gonna be dissaponted.

Man of Steel don't exist anymore. DC ditched it a while back.

So now we've got Rucka writing one title, Azz writing another, and Austen on the third. Fucking AUSTEN!! Can't really stand his writing, esp. when he says in interviews that most fans love his stuff and it's just 12 Net trolls who bash him constantly. Ahhh, to be so deluded. Why not Morrison instead of fucking Austen?!?!? Ahhh well.

Yes, please tell the story!! Is this when Grant invoked and communicated with the spirit of Superman?

Is Superman still on triangle time, so that each title is merely that chapter for that week? While I think it more logical than having four Supermen doing something different it would mean Grant having to play with four other writers and co-ordinate with them. Can't quite see him doing that myself. Unless each comic is back to it's own thing again.

No, they're independent entities.

Quite excited about Azz taking on the Bat- and Super-Men.

Oh, it was just a simple story - I won't do it justice - but it had something to do with Morrison getting shitfaced at a convention back when he was writing JLA and I think around that time he'd been asked about doing superman and was trying to work out how to get a hold on the character. so he's wandering around the city at night, thinking to himself, and at the train station or something he meets superman. now, obviously it's a guy dressed as superman who's been in the costume comp at the convention, but he's apparently really accurate, and wandering around in his costume late at night - bit weird - so grant goes up and has a chat to superman about the whole problem with the character that he's having, and superman answers in character, something like "the whole problem is that lois can't ever really understand me, because I'm not human", and it all clicks in morrison's head and he knows how he's going to write the character. he didn't elaborate on how he would, though.

and then someone in dc said that grant would never ever write superman.

at Grant's website there's a pic of him and Waid surrounded by folks in 'Superfamily' fashion.

I'm anxiously waiting to see Grant pulling Supes' strings - ideally with Quitely or Jimenez on art. this may happen if DC let him work his version of the character - not too distant from how Supes should work on his comics, but don't. no matter if he's on a monthly or a mini apart - like Waid.

what strike me as old news is what Steven Grant adressed in this week's PERMANENT DAMAGE column: DC may not let all this talent gathered around the Supes property to do apply no real changes to it. they're there as a way to sell said properties with an extra pedigree.

hope I'm wrong in the end.

The rumor i heard most reliably in San Diego was
Morrison and Lee Bermejo on Man of Steel.

No Man of Steel series, and the latest I have heard is that Grant MAY do a mini-series with Superman. To be honest, the teams they have in place will help sales a bit (and Rucka will be the first person to do Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman at the same time since Denny O'Neil) but there's really an amazing amount of crap that has accumulated on Superman since Byrne scraped all the barancles off.

The triangle stuff made it a bland soap opera, his villians are STILL not half as interesting as Batman's, and he's become so powerful it's hard to write a story where he's ever in any peril.

Maybe comics should wipe the slate clean every 10 - 15 years and fans just deal with it...since Byrne's last good work was on the Superman books after the revamp. Seriously, does anyone need Mxylptlk to be a lame rip-off of Team Rocket anymore?

Anyone but AUSTEN!!!! Grrrrr....I'm so mad Morrison isn't writing one of the main Supes titles.

And Grant actually updated his website? Anything new besides pictures?

penitentvandal

The picture ain't new, and nor is anything on Grant's site.

Either of them.

Y'know what? Grant shouldn't have a site. The only people who visit it are Grant-obsessives like us, and it's too work-intensive for Grant to update regularly. But how to satisfy those of us who need our fix of Grant more often than once a month?

Once again, I have the solution: The Morrisons! Yes indeed - a weekly reality TV spectacle featuring the chociest footage from Grant and Kristan's adventures each week! (Or even the choicest footage - if Grant doesn't want to show us his weird confectionerysex fetish, it's his lookout). Thrill to the exploits of Our Anarcho-pop Hero, as he visits comic conventions, talks nonsense, and gets told off by Joe Quesada like a worker in one of those god-awful Orange ads with that fucking kid (you know the one I mean, he's patently meant to be a knowing little Age of Horus reference on the part of some ad-exec who thinks he's on some kind of coolmagegroove but goddam, he just looks like someone whose middle name's spelled see-you-enn-tee to me)! Gasp in wonderment as he gives another interview to newsarama! BE ENTHRALLED AS HE READS SOME LETTERS! Yes, leap with joy, be blithe and gay, then weep, my friends, with sorrow - for when Grantidee's on Sky today, Ellis will be tomorrow...'

(Channel 4 would like to apologise to viewers unable to catch tonight's episode of the only terrestrial showing of the Morrisons due to Imaginaut's between-program links overrunning again...)

I am not Grant Morrison. He just writes my life at the moment.

Which possibly makes me a GM fictionsuit - except that I'm only pretending he writes my life for magical effect. Or am I? I mean, what if...
