Thoth vs. Isis

Two Egyptian Deities of magic, which one do you prefer? Ibis headed ancestor of Hermes/Mercury, or Mother of Horus and sisterwife of Osiris? Anyone an expert on the differences? Anyone know any fascinating occult trivia about them? Who's the most badass, magically speaking?

I'm a Thoth man myself, 'cause I'm a man, into writing and communication and he's got a better sense of humour. Isis is all about the feminine mysteries and secrets, and I'm like 'whatever'.

How about you?

Well, as a Thelemite, every act is unto Nuit and, hence, unto Isis, who is the earthly manifestation of Nu.

In a strictly D&D sense, Isis would easily kick Thoth's ass since she reigns in a higher level of the pantheon hierarchy.

However, this is not to diss Thoth in any way. The Messenger is key to much of what passes for human thought and imagination. Without Thoth/Hermes there would be no spark of cognition - he is the messenger of the Logos.

Isis would easily kick Thoth's ass How so? Thoth taught magic to Isis did he not? I put Isis and Thoth as colleagues (as it were) contemporaries and equals.

Well, as a Thelemite, every act is unto Nuit
Really? I didn't know that, do all Thelemites follow that? Crowley called his Tarot Thoth, I thought he preferred the beaky chap (as a writer and magician it made sense) but my Crowleyology is poor- he acted unto Nut?

Without Thoth/Hermes there would be no spark of cognition - he is the messenger of the Logos.
Would you associate him with Prometheus or Metatron, is he on the side of Man or the Divine? I suppose he is the messenger between the two, but he strikes me as more like Prometheus than Metatron- what do you think?

I know this thread seems to duplicate the other Thoth & Isis thread but I'm aiming for a broader approach, to explore their relationship from other points of view than Isisian.

Okay, I'm new, but wouldn't Isisian dominion include and transcend Thothian? For me, there's no petty male/female garble.

I mean, Thoth seems to reside north of the Sun and finish south of The Devil, and never more east than Temperance. Thoth's important as far as the development of the Self and sense of The Other is concerned, but the persuit of Isis travels up to Kether and seems to include psychic, subtle, causal, and even nondual sensibilities.

To me, there is no Thoth that is not Isis, but there might be Isis without Thoth. Maybe.

I guess it's like this for me: The tree falls in the woods, no one's around to hear it, makes a sound? Thoth says No, since the interpretation of hearing is a sentient sense. Isis also says No, but she's like everything vibrates, nothing is "heard".

Thoth and Isis would have got on famously. Thoth has links with Hermes who was a thief, and Isis totally nicked magical powers from her predecessor via a handy scheme involving a snake. Isis wasn't boring, Thoth wasn't amoral.

Seshat, Thoth's consort, invented the alphabet and was Thoth's scribe; she, too, was ass-kicking. Lest we forget.

You know..having studied Crowleys patterns as a part of my work, I find it almost preposterous to think that he too had not solved the riddle of the riddle of Isis and the English Language; he was even dead on when he transposed the path of the Star in the Hebrew Kabballa, for when you combine the two systems, the Star would be exactly where Crowley put it.

It is inconceiveable to me in a some respects that he did not have the actual keys, and due to his initiations, could not release them except in purposeful cryptic form.

Hence when he wrote the "Book of the Law", he changed two deitys, and morphed them into another story....

He called these deities "HADIT" and "NUIT", and I cant help but think that his final laugh was in the Book of the Law, for he HAD solved the riddle of English, and thus the "gods" of Hadit and Nuit were a simple cipher.

He "had it", meaning he held the keys, and he "knew it", meaning he knew how to combine the two...

Isis cannot exist without Thoth, as Thoth is wed to Ma'at, and it is Ma'at that is Pi.

In a story I am writing the two of them had an illegitimate secret son.
What do you think the son of Thoth and Isis would be like?

The so-called female energy would have to exist side-by-side with the so-called male energy, Siva and Shakti..... so who cares about a so-called comics battle between the two??? I'd plump for Isis cos everyone who knows, knows that women are the true power - they give birth,etc..... But ultimately, what about a showdown between anrogynous godforms???????

First -

Thank God the ISP ban is relieved.

Second -

In a strictly D&D sense, Isis would easily kick Thoth's ass since she reigns in a higher level of the pantheon hierarchy

Isis had her head ripped off by Horus during the epic Horus/Set battle. She called upon Thoth who quickly healed her wound by giving her the head of a cow...making her Hathor.

So -

Thoth all the way.Yuh.

And,yes, I associate Thoth to Metatron. Not the messenger of the logos, but The Logos. Isis is all about form and had scant power previous to Thoth givong her the words of power.

No disrespect "Is - Is baby."
