Can I just remind people that there are several different types of interaction with Barbelith - some of which are regular, many-times-a-day visits (and these people won't get confused even if you changed all your names to 'Brie') and then the rest of the extended community who might actually think that you ARE flux if you have flux in your name... I'm a little concerned by the recent renamings and would like people to consider carefully the names they've rechosen and whether they're comfortable with the inevitable misunderstandings and confusions...

I imagine that everyone will be back to normal in a week anyway so there's probably not too much to worry about.

True. Although I'm currently very excited at not using my actual name as a screen name, and I may never go back...

I must admit I don't know who the fuck half of you are any more. And that's taking into account I only believe half of you actually exist anyway.

Well I know who Sam Vega is through quick deduction but everyone else is a complete mystery. I quite like the process of erm... guessing.

Have to agree. I can't tell who's who when they change names to something completely different, at least keep one word constant please.
Although is it endemic or just godog/BC/>0
Maybe I'll change my name to Brie in protest and force people to deduce my identity through my posting style to question people's notions of identity and set up suits to argue with myself to cloud the issue and... *yawn*

yours confusedly,

I don't know who anyone is. But I'm bad with matching names and posting styles, so I didn't know who anyone was before this.

Do you suppose the confusion of being metaphorically talked at by hundreds of people who keep swapping identities is enough to trigger enlightenment? or madness?

.....

No, doesn't seem to be working. Maybe I'd better go get some controlled substances.

"Although is it endemic or just godog/BC/>0[?]"

OK I hope last time: I am not currently nor have I ever been any of the "Greenland" crew--not BC, RRM, or any of that. I have been (between my two suits): the godog, G.D.G., 444, and currently 6opo6; and modfive, modthree, MODZILLA, modzero, el Zilcho, ... >0< ..., and currently flux = squirrels and penguins (if only to play the game). Got it?

"Do you suppose the confusion of being metaphorically talked at by hundreds of people who keep swapping identities is enough to trigger enlightenment? or madness?"

I suppose that enlightenment and madness are the same thing, it is merely our personal ability to cope that distinguishes the one from the other...

Well I've already lost track of who everyone is.

But then I'm easily confused.

Liar.

I'm cutting down on our agreed Personality Time for you particularly, bruvvah liahr.

It's a little funny... the massive renamings seem to be Fictionsuit 2.0. Instead of multiple suits, just totally change your name every three days... long-timers will recognize the source-meat from your post, and new members/lurkers will get the new fictionsuit experience (in that it matters what is said, not who says what). Might cut down on some of the spontaneous bickering overflowing throughout threads, if no-one can coherently reference old flame-posts.

Failing that, I move everyone changes their name to a variant of Flux, differentiated only by mathematical operators, and the like(
).

Well, some people who mostly go on fora that I don't, and only post elsewhere occasionally... that's confusing.

Aren't suits anonymous enough for some people? I mean, we do have names for a reason. Maybe we should just give up on them altogether? I like playing with usernames but sometimes it takes the piss.

I did think Flux's thread was funny, mind.

People used to pick new names every time the board crashed anyway. Its old skool.

Well I've already lost track of who everyone is.

Yo tambien. Maybe we need another of those "who were you?" threads? I've been meaning to start one for a while, because one or two namechangers have me utterly flummoxed (and that's before we had the Night of a Thousand Fluxes).

I should say that part of my intention in that thread was to encourage more concise screen names without extra stuff tacked on the end without any discernable logic or consistency.. If I've helped to usher in any bad habits on Barbelith, I fear that my constantly-changing-variable shtick may have influenced a lot of people trying to awkwardly integrate a similar sort of tag onto screen names. (I think Haus helped to start this meme too...)

I do cringe when I see some of the concise names which I suggested in that thread lumped together in a wordy run-on clump or having extra bits tagged on. I think that really misses the point, you know?

I'm pretty sure most people know who I am. My new name is only one letter away from my real name, and those in the Magick forum can probably see me as I'm typing.

Anyone who's confused can PM, but I doubt anyone cares sufficiently.

You've all become a bunch of chuckleheads!

Well, OK, not literally all.

Let's try this:
You've many become a subculture of chuckleheads. Yeah, that's better - except "you've many" sounds like a name from somewhere in eastern Europe.
