Got this odd (putting it nicely) flatmate. Italian lad, who's become strangely obsessed with the phrase "W la FIGA" over the last couple of weeks. Wanders around the flat muttering it, shouts it at the TV, even has it as the welcome note on his phone (no, he wasn't showing that off I just noticed it when he turned it on and put in down on the table). What the hell does it mean?

Google can't translate it, and web searches give me either porn or photos of flags with "Peace of Figa" written across them.

I'm confused.

Fair question.

We're having... difficulties... with him, and are thus trying to avoid any unnessecary conversation, until he leaves in a couple of weeks. This phrase is really bugging me nonetheless.

It probably means "fuck of you English wankers" or something.

I know the perils of odd house mates. It can be difficult. Sorry I can't be any help on the translation.

That's probably it, yeah.

Although flags saying "Peace of the fuck of you English wankers" would really be odd. Cheers anyway. I'll go back to googling and see what I can turn up.

Fica means cunt. I think the W should be spelled ua short for gua short for guarda. Which means look. Its a laziness/dialect thing.

So, "Look at the cunt", literally. I'd look here for lots of info on Italian swearing.

yes - much to my chagrin I just found that out; I posted on my idle chat forum at work and one of the managers emailed me with "I think a little more research would be in order" and another colleague directed to http://w.la.figa.com which is a horrid porn site!
