NYC - HELP!

I'm coming to NYC 8/7-10. I need advice on where to stay on the cheap. I'm traveling alone, so I don't need anything big and I'm not too picky so I don't need anything fancy - however I'm not willing to share a bathroom or anything like that. as long as there's a bathroom and a bed, it's clean, and I can get to public transport easily, I really don't care.

please give me some advice on where to look, because I honestly have zero idea.

Have you looked into hostels? Try the ones that are affiliated with YHI, you'll know they're reputable that way.

You can probably just stay over at my house on Staten Island. I'm right next to a bus going to brooklyn, and a bus going to the ferry (which goes to Manhattan.) I'm also right next to a train that goes right to the ferry which goes to Manhattan. It's near a chinese food place and a Russian store, as well by a pharmacy and a car dealership. It takes an hour to actually get to Manhattan and around 20 - 30 minutes to get to Brooklyn. Plus the house has its own 3 bathrooms! None of which I use. Extra advantages include a little long-curly haired dachshund and a shitload of books plus a broadband connection.
