Hey NYC posters. as you know, I'm being banished back to the sunshine state on August 1st, but I'd like to have a party or get-together of some sort before I go. Since this is my last weekend, if anyone is interested in going out for drinks, coffee, movies, something like that, you should holla and we can organize something. I also really want to play real-life mafia, so maybe that could be an option... I don't have any set plans on when or where, but I'd love to see all of you there, so let me know and we can make plans!

It is weird to start my own thread. I hope I get responses!

If you come, make sure to bring a sharpie.

Anyway, I vote for real-life mafia but I'm stumped as to a venue.

Lolita, I'm up for meeting you before you leave "The Greatest City on Earth" but I work nights so I can only make it, physically, if it was during the daytime. I have to leave for work at 5pm.

Mafia is a game about paranoia. We were playing it in the Creation forum before. There's lots of shouting and laughing - it's fun.

You coming to Florida?

I'll arrange for a welcoming spray of dank miasmal humidity! New York has ticker-tape, but here, we know what fun is... MOISTURE!!

Matthew Fluxington

I, of course, will be there, rocking.

lolita nation
03:25 / 23.07.03
Yeah, I'll be in the capital of Florida. Probably at my old job, waiting for a chance to spit in Katherine Harris's food. It's not the heat, grant. It's the stupidity. (wocka wocka wocka wocka)

Anyway, rocking is not optional on Saturday. If you come and aren't rocking, there will be a fine. This is not negotiable. I'd offer my apartment space for Mafia, but there isn't any (damn! I'm throwin' rocks tonight!). I think we may have come up with a workable bar in Park Slope with a back garden, though, where we could play Mafia kinda early. Then we could always go to Buttermilk later which is a tried-and-true hangout for barbelith posters. It feels weird suggesting we go to Brooklyn because I'm always the one like, "blah blah we never hang out in the city," but I know Flux is botycotting the grunge bar and a lot of the other places I know in Manhattan are really expensive. Of course if anyone has better plans we are open to suggestions. Suggest something!

The Gate -----> Buttermilk = ideal

?Donde estas el Gate?

The Gate is at 5th Ave and 3rd St. in Brooklyn. I think the Union Street/4th Ave MNRW stop is the closest subway to there. Buttermilk is 5th Ave. and 15th St., I believe - well within walking distance.

Spitting in Harris' food.... Did you know Dennis Gephardt?

So, this old friend contacted me via friendster, and I haven't spoken to him in years, but he's currently running an improv science fiction radio show at the People's Improv Theater, every Saturday at Eight.

The P.I.T. is 154 W 29th ST. which is nowhere near Park Slope.

Just in case scheduling demanded or permitted a pre-Gate affair. (What time are we looking to start the Mafiosing?)

Not Dick Gephardt from Missouri? No, I don't think so.

lolita nation
04:12 / 24.07.03
I don't know. Not before noon, because that's when I go to bed. Other than that I have a hellishly open schedule. What time is best for everyone else?

WHAT DAY?
WHAT TIME?
WHAT PLACE?

The Gate is great choice for me, I live like a 5min walk from there.

*bump*

Okay, who is interested in playing Mafia? We can go to the Gate early, say 7ish or something, and do that, and then go drink at Buttermilk, though if I plan to go there it will most certainly pour like a motherfucker. But if we're not going to have enough people interested in Mafia we might as well just go to Buttermilk.

I would think that drinking beforehand would enhance the Mafia exprience, Todd, so perhaps you need to re-think the order of things.

Matthew Fluxington
19:50 / 24.07.03
I agree. I think I'd have more fun with Mafia if I had some drinks in me.

Ethan Hawke
20:05 / 24.07.03
no one is saying you can't drink at the Gate, which is a bar, by the way.

In which case, there's nothing to be lost by starting at The Gate, & playing it ear then, unless I'm missing something?

Since no one else can be bothered, I, Maximillian Funk, or as some of you may know me, Todd, party impressario extraordinaire, have decided that Ms. Lolita Nation's going-away party will commence at approximately 7pm, EST, on Saturday, July 26, in the year of Our Lord Jesus 2003.

The party will begin at The Gate, located on the corner of 3rd St. and 5th Avenue in Park Slope Brooklyn. I visited this bar yesterday evening and determined it was an appropriate venue because the bartender was wearing a tight "Dr. Who" t-shirt. And drinks were reasonably cheap. The closest subway stop is the Union Street M, R, W station (note: the N does not stop there). After you get off the subway, walk one block up the hill to 5th avenue, and then 3-4 blocks, um, south (turn right) to 3rd street.

At the Gate, should a quorum be reached, we will attempt to play a game of Mafia, of which more about you can find here, though feel free to ignore all the baroque variations and just concentrate on the mechanics of shouting and accusing.

Later in the evening, we will most likely end up at Buttermilk, also on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. It's on the corner of...16th street? I believe. there's no sign, but there will be people outside smoking, and an indierock centric jukebox inside. The closest subway stop is the Prospect Ave M,R,W station (no N here either), from which you walk up the hill one block and walk two blocks south. the bar is on the uphill side of 5th Avenue.

Alles klare? Who is coming?

Should you not have met some of us, most of our pictures are in the conversation photos thread. Should that fail, look for people with magic marker all over them.

If you're coming, but don't know what time, it would be a good idea to PM me, and I'll give you my cell # so that you can check in and find out where we are.
