Ok, I was riding with a friend yesterday who has a billion burned cd's, and i heard this song, and I should have asked him right then what it was, but I asked him today, and the description I gave was pretty weak, and he may have narrowed down which artist it might be by, but still no luck in finding the song.
The beginning is like a drum machine and upbeat cheerful digital beep noises, and guitars might eventually kick in, but I don't quite remember, and there are vocals. He suggested it might have been either The Getup Kids, Onelinedrawing, or maybe Reggie and the Full effect. Anyone know?

A drum machine, some guitars and some singing, eh? I think I know just the one you mean...

Try asking in a record shop. They just love that kind of vague description. Gives 'em space to improvise.

Are you sure you can't narrow it down any more?

Kazaa'ing any of the 3 groups you mentioned did give plentiful results.
Do you remember a chorus line or anything?

downloading a bunch of songs i think im pretty sure its probably Reggie and the Full Effect. Because there are some very similar songs, but I still haven't struck gold. And I thought Barbelith would be just a little more help with my very descriptive query. Aren't alot of you Magicians and Telepaths? Good Lord.

*bump*

This is a bit sad bumping an old thread like this, but I found it on google, and I think I can help.

The song you're looking for is Smile by onelinedrawing, I do belive. It's from the album Visitor, starts with bleeps and bloops, has vocals and guitars and later on has some R2D2 noise.

Hope this helps.

btw, anyone else here like onelinedrawing? their second album, the Volunteers, is sublime, and yet there's nary a mention of Jonah on the blith. what's up with that?

Onelinedrawing, hmm...description of the song sounds familiar.

Problem with Jonah is his best work is behind him. Far and bits of New End Original were amazing, makes Onelinedrawing sound pedestrian in comparisson. This particularly shows when he plays live, all the old songs sound fresh and amazing, new stuff is pedestrian in that context.

Didn't one of his songs end up being the theme tune for a sitcom or something?

I would definitely agree that hje's gotten weaker with age. I thought the Gratitude album was weak as hell, it was really disappointing, as it could have been New End Orginal mk2. I'll still defend the volunteers till the death though. No album should be able to have "Help me get over this" "Had a deal" "Living Small" and "As much as myself as to you" and be called mediocre.

Have you seen on his site you can get unique recordings? Depending on the song/what he would have to do, Jonah will record new versions of whatever songs you ask for (for a price). I really wanna save up a few hundred dollars and get him to record a best-of for me.

i have another request. travelling a few years ago, i was in bonny old england and kept hearing a missy elliot song on the radio i meant to chase up when i got home, a few months later... did i? hmmmmmmmmm

so, scouring missy's discs i can't seem to find the title that suits it or recalls the song for me, but it was about a phantom lover and had some lines like 'oops, there goes my shirt up over my head, oops there goes my skirt upon to the floor' and i think something about an elevator and 'i look over to the left' as a refrain.

anyone??
