Found the most amazing superhero song of all time yesterday. It's called "The Metamorpho Theme Song". It's from some children's record album, from the 70's most likely, and the lyrics are a recounting of his origin:

This is the story of the Element Man
Metamorpho - Metamorpho
Starts way back in Egypt land
Metamorpho - Metamorpho
Rex Mason was his real name
Metamorpho - Metamorpho
A solider of fortune, didn't care about fame
Metamorpho - Metamorpho

Well, you get the gist. It's FANTASTIC. Fire up that file sharing
program and look for it. You won't be disappointed.

that song's from an album called SONGS AND STORIES OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, which also has a fantastic theme song for the JLA -

Here we come
hey look out chum
we're the justice league
(the justice league)

superheroes all
always on the ball
that's the justice league
(the justice league)

and there's big trouble with a capital B
a super-colossal calamity
a tremendous stupendous catastrophe
and when we put on a show
everywhere the four winds blow
when we get that call
watch us all
we're the justice league

and there's big trouble with a captial B
for any souped-up super enemy
on earth or in space or land or sea
cos when they put on a show
when we get that call
watch us all
we're the justice league
yeah the justice league
oh the justice league
that's the justice league

fuckin' cool. send me blank cassettes (PM for address) and I'll dub a copy for you. you won't regret it. lots of radio plays too. aquaman vs hydro the dehydrator, flash vs the three faces of mr. big, wonder woman vs. brunhilde the valkyrie...

love it.

oh - the other cool thing i forgot about that song is that it's actually SUNG by metamorpho, as evinced by the last verse:

rearrange his molecules just like that
become anything he'd like at the drop of a hat
be a hero a king, yet he'd chuck it all if he
could be the one thing he just can't be:
plain Rex Mason. I know 'cos you see
I am the element man
the element man
the element man

a nice spice of tragedy there, i think.

Does Metamorpho sing like Louis Armstrong? I only ask because when reading JLE comics about fifteen years ago I always thought he should sound like Lionel Stander (Max in Hart To Hart and Kup in The Transformers: The Movie) and if Lionel Stander sang I think he'd sound like Louis Armstrong.

Or would he sound more like Morrissey? Always was a grumpy-looking sod.

Hey and that JLA theme is used on the intro to madlib & MF Doom's "madvillain" project! Get that - for homeboy as well as fanboy thrills

MF Doom has also just released a couple albums under different names:
Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villian
King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader.

Naw, the singer sounds more like schmaltzy Vegas lounge singer. It works tho.

I agree, I always thought that Metamorpho whould have a raspy voice.

MF Doom is mostly known as a rapper but produces too, madlib is mostly known as a producer but raps too. Madlib runs stones throw records, an outstanding hip hop label and has been involved in massive amounts of stuff. Both are extremely prolific.

I just mentioned it because I only heard the madvillain album recently and was wondering where they got that crazy intro from. This thread popping up was such an insane coincidence that I had to comment.

Ummm... the album itself doesn't really have anything to do with comics, although the MF in MF Doom does stand for Metal Face in homage to the Marvel baddie. Apparently he is never seen in public without his Dr. Doom mask. Yerright.

Operation Doomsday

Special Herbs

My favourite cover has an image of DD ranting about how's going to take over the world with unstoppable bass but I couldn't find a pic.

Anyone who doesn't take matsya up on his offer is a FOOL. One of my favoritest tapes ever was the one he sent me with the Justice League on it.

And the songs are not like Tom Waits, but like any early 60s action show theme, or maybe the songs in the Annette Funicello surf movies.

Now I'm gonna be singing the lines "BIIIIG trouble, with a capital T, a Super - Colossal - Calami- ty!" all day long. Dang!

MF Doom used to be in KMD. That outfit disbanded I think cos of some legal outrage at the cover of their 'Black Bastards' album cover. It got banned and I think the metal-face persona is some response to that. He fucking rules as well.
