My friend who self-published had the same kind of responses for his novel, Sax. Lot's of praise on the writing and the story, followed by some version or another of "We don't really know what to do with this." It falls inbetween most of the established genres, but doesn't adhere to any of them. It's set in the future, and there's aliens and inter-galactic travel and virtual reality, but it's also funny as hell, and there's a lot of direct religious and social and political commentary, and publishers just had no idea what to do with it, so he said 'fuck it, I'll just publish the damn thing myself.' So he did the iUniverse POD thing, and now he's got a novel, A Cross To Bare |
