Specifically the sort of recipes that one would ordinarily keep to oneself. Not out of selfishness mind you, but perhaps moreso to do with their oddness factor.

(Of course, oddness being a purely subjective experience)

My own pathetic examples:

--grilled cheese with avocado sandwiches, liberally drizzled with hot sauce.
--warm pretzels dipped in humus.
--rice mixed with a bit of Patak's hot mango pickle, crushed peanuts and chopped scallions.
--portabello mushrooms and broccoli stir-fried in tamari and minced garlic, and eaten cold.
--frozen chocolate-covered pretzels.

Chocolate and vanilla ice cream, stir in loads of Kellogs Frosted Flakes, drizzle with melted butter.

Otherwise, a big bowl full of merringue-just egg whites beaten with sugar.

Chili con carne without the carne by Jove! Just miss out half the ingredients. I usually do. And ignore the long instructions - just throw everything in a pot and stir. (The Quentin Crisp method.)

That was a good thread. *belly rumbles*

I once saw a recipe for chile con carne (with the carne) in The Times. I bloody wish I'd kept it, because it was one of the most intriguing recipes I've ever come across and it'll prey on my mind until the day I die.

Apparently, it was a more 'authentic' version of the meal, as opposed to the rest of the World's bastardisation of it. It involved cubed fillet steak in place of the mince and there was dark chocolate involved in the sauce somewhere along the line, too. It also specified some very specific, quite hard to come by chillis (it told you where you could buy them online).

I know it's a long shot, but if any barbeloids have the recipe, I'd be forever endebted if you could let me have it.

Yes I know, the above recipe wasn't exactly totally in line with the abstract.

So sue me.

Yeah, a good chilli should include chocolate and cumin. Doing it with TVP chunks or mince instead of meat is fine - I'm not veggie but I used to do that all the time when I was a student, due to TVP being 50p a pack, less full of shit and keeping forever.

These are barely recipes, but they're good:

1) cereal and milk with a bunch of frozen blueberries on the bottom

2) orange juice and frozen blueberries, roughly blended

Soup.

Potato and corn chowder (couple of potatoes, some garlic, salt&pepper, a little onion, and corn - frozen works just fine! Herbs if you've got them - thyme is wonderful, and so is a little bit of basil)

Tomato and lentil soup - can of tomatoes (chopped, diced, whole, whatever), some onion and some garlic, a handful of lentils, a handful of rice if you feel like it, thyme and pepper, salt at the end when the lentils are tender.

Green soup - tastes like spring no matter what season it is - peas (frozen is fine, fresh is better but way too much work), broth (I like chicken, but veggie works), a little bit of spinach, some onion and thyme, maybe a bit of garlic, salt&pepper and a table spoon or so of curry (it's unbearably sweet without it). Simmer, then run through a blender - it's a remarkably vibrant green.
