Tom O'Bedlam and the Hand Of Glory

A friend of mine has just started reading the Invisibles, and I thought I'd re-read it too (haven't really since it came out the first time), and something struck me that hadn't before, and I wondered what the boffins over here at Barbelith would make of it -

Did Tom 'O Bedlam make the hand of Glory?

Sir Miles choped Beryl's hand off to prove his thingy m go so he could join a group right? Now if this group is the very same that has that awful man Seaton as it's head, and Freddy's the greatest magus evr to have lived, then is it not a logical leap to think that the hand went to him, and that it was he who turned it into the Hand of Glory?

This was at the time when Tom seems to be part of the dark side of the force, and it opens a fracture into the outer church that turned tom crazy initially. Also we know the king in Yellow frequents the tunnels in which we see Tom's order operating, so that would explain how it came to the Harlequinade.

Hmm very first cursor ramblings, I just wondered what you guys thought about this minor plot point (or is this site Invisibled out now?)

I'm sure this idea connects into things a lot deeper.

There are a number of possible answers and none that have been confirmed as far as I know. One theory is that Dane made the Hand of Glory as evinced by the scenes with him in the kitchen dipping a glove into boiling liquid. Another theory is that the Hand of Glory, Robin's Time Travel suit, and the suit used by John a'Dreams are all the same device. In which case, we have three seemingly valid theories - including the Miles/Freddy angle.

The intriguing thing is that all may be correct. The very nature of a time travel device could be that it exists in a state of annihilation and perpetuity. It has always existed and never existed, allowing it to forever come into being - to be created - and it joins with itself in the Supercontext.

So I choose d: all of the above.

I understood enough about the Invisibles (I think), to realise what you're saying, and I agree.

My point's only really that I'd never before realised the circular connection with Freddy. It'd only ever gone as far as - "Oh, it's Beryl's hand" in my head.
