!!My First Commision!!

Okay, i just thought i'd come and boast about the fact that a shareware games company is letting me design some aliens for their next game. This is good, because it now means that i feel big compared to all the people who arent designing aliens for shareware games.

One idea that came up out of this was that "wouldn't it be good if there was a free way of having your stuff put on a website, so prospective employers can look at it", and also, "maybe those ace people on barbelith know about one, maybe they'll let me put some stuff on their website".

oh yeah...Does anyone know how you write a comic? I mean is there a particular way or do you just do as you please?

Congatulations! I have never designed aliens for shareware games.

It seems that you are after a website - the things to consider are as follows:

a. Content
b. Location

Lots of people now use Blogger (www.blogger.com) to create webpages. You can host the page at Blogspot, so your address would be
www.[yournameforthesite].blogspot.com
This is one of the quickest and easiest way to create a text-only webpage.

Another way is to create the pages in html. Do a google search for HTML TUTORIAL, there are loads of webpages telling you how to do that stuff.

If you have an email account, you probably have some webspace available for your use. You can use FTP Explorer (www.ftpx.com) to transfer pictures from your pc to the web space.

You could then use the BLOGGER page to display pictures from your webspace.

With regards to writing a comic - Do a google search for comic script samples, there are plenty about.

The format is generally

Page 1
PAGE DESCRIPTION eg(this will be one big picture)

Panel 1
PANEL DESCRIPTION eg (Dave punches villain in jaw)
WORDS eg (Dave: "Take that, villain!!")
SOUND EFFECTS eg ("WHAAAPPPP!!!")

As long as you communicate to the artist what is meant to be drawn, you are fine.

If you want go to the news section of www.jennyeverywhere.com and look at two of my scripts currently on display. I mean, they're not Sandman scripts but you'll get a general idea of how it's done. Oh and congratulations you lucky bastard!

Generally there are as many different styles of comic script as there are comics writers - one useful example of a comic script is the one that is included in Sandman: preludes and nocturns (which IS a Neil Gaiman script...), others, such as Alan Moore's verbose 'artist proof' scripts are probably less useful. But yeah check out the Jenny Everywhere site for more examples.

Cheers. um, the shareware aliens will call round, but they're a bit busy with all these ace people, so you might have to wait. but it'll be worth it.
