Tescos (UK Supermarket) has just lost its case against Levi Strauss (Jeans manufacturer) in a court case over the right for Tescos to sell their Jeans.
details here
Basically Tescos wanted to import Levi jeans from American wholesalers where they are cheaper than the price Levi sell them to UK retailers. Tesco were passing on the reduction in price to the consumer. Levi basically claimed that this diluted the value of their brand in the European market and claimed the right to control the distribution of their product even after they have sold it to third parties, further eroding the concept of free trade. Corporate protectionism, it appears, is king. |
