The time has come for those who are greedy, indecisive, fence-sitting scum to stand united

It's Bicon 2003 and this year it'll be in East London over the Bank Holiday weekend. Any bykes (hmmm, what do you think? I must admit I'm not sure I like the term but I'll be buggered if I'm going to keep typing the more satisfying 'greedy...' etc thing each time, and 'bisexual' sounds like som kind of lavatory detergent) going? I know at least two from here are going, of which I'm one, anyone else willing to stand up and be counted?

If not I think you'll have to ask yourself the question: 'Have you tried not being a fence-sitter?'

Am too fat too leave the house. Sounds interesting, though.

Sigh.

Not sure about 'bykes'. It's a bit too wheeled-sounding for my liking. Still, it has connotations of rideability that amuse me.

My current personal definition re. gender and sexuality is simply None Of The Above. Not a cop-out, I don't think. Just truer than anything else I could think of.

I haven't quite decided yet. I think I probably should go but at the moment I can't pay for it (or anything actually) so very possibly not.

Holy Shit!

21 years they've been having this event? I feel like a byke who hasn't had hir training wheels off yet for not knowing about it.

Being in the middle of the US without the necessary disposable income to just "pop on over", I will not be attending.[/sob] Hope all who do have heaps of gender-bounding fun without me.

(And, yes, I have tried not being a fence-sitter. The boys are just too aggressive, which is what sexually attracts me to them, anyway. (Now emotional attraction is an entire different kettle of weebles...))

i know it was said tongue in cheek, but i thik ths whole greedy thing is shite.

i dont shag more than my share, just as i only eat one man's food a day. what i eat is more varied than many, as is what i might shag.

no, i wont shag you.

not even me.

shits me no end when people feel they can bash bisexuals because they dont get how you could be one.

makes me feel like they think that being gay is a condition, and that to be occasioanlly sick makes no sense. or maybe that you are one way and can't admit it, which makes no sense to me at all.

right. vents now closed.

Hey, Cho - I used to identify as "d-sexual" (as in d, none of the above)! Yayy for us!! Our numbers are growing!!! There'll be a D-con by 2010!!!

Have been thinking about going to Bicon in the meantime, but it'll have to be next year as I won't be in England for it this year.

I'd like to point out that I have more varied sex than any of you. And a more varied diet. I have okra. Sexual okra.

Selfimportancepatrolgo!

(Am pondering Bicon - are there any Richard Dean Anderson seminars? He must be the way into bisexuality for so many people...)

I wish I'd said that, Oscar.

Your sex could not be less varied, toksie, if you were performing sex in the missionary position. With your wife. Of 30 years. Who you had sex with every third Saturday evening, rain or shine, after a meal made up largely of cabbage. And you lived in the 19th century. Next door to a church. With thin walls.

I, conversely, have sex with every vegetable that can be whittled into a semblance of Richard Dean Anderson's face, and then eat it. My crudity is my crudité.

Isn't Richard Dean Anderson MacGyver? And does that make you Patty or Selma, Haus?

I'm glad you just explained that Deva because I really didn't want to ask (though now I've googled it I realise he's in the awful Stargate SG-1 as well).

I have to admit that, earlier on in the day, when I skimmed this thread wondering what the hell it was about, I came to the conclusion that it was about cyclists.

All I can say is that giant lizards ate my brain. I think that's a fair excuse.

Ah, hell. This particular greedy, promiscuous, flexible fence-sitting scum also isn't leaving the States due to lack of funds.

But I'll see if I can coordinate a date with both my favorite girlfiend and my favorite guyfiend to honor the conference...

(can I run fast enough???)

I own a Stargate fan novel, despite the fact that it is [shudder] gen and I have never seen the show (even though it has MacGyver in it, which is funny). Just one of those inexplicable things... Um, anyway, but I recently met a very nice woman who has been going to Bicon regularly for years, and it sounds great (full of panels on slash written by young, sexy bi chyx rather than, as in the tradition I proudly belong to, middle-aged frumpy women): hope y'all who go have a good time.

I think I read some Macgyver/Stargate x-over fan fiction once, it was scary. And while Haus may be promoting the merits of Jacking your body I'd have to go for oh Danny boy every time, with his cute little fringe and his glasses. Or the doctor. Or Teal'c. Or indeed that strange little homonculous who operates the gate. Indeed, the idea of a three way involving General Hammond, Teal'c's acne-scarred mentor and the Senator who was in Robocop is still a much warmer and secure mental place than anything involving RDA and sex.

... and in the usual twist of Barbesynch...

Today I found MacGuyver on Bravo at 3:35, ending half way thru Stargate on Sky. Double dose. More weird [off-topic] coincidences with the episodes... not least that I haven't seen an episode of MG in years.

Meanwhile, back at the topic... So, are you sure we can't tempt you to come to the weekend days? You can pay for the day singley. There's a slash fiction workshop on Sunday, along with bodypainting and an introduction to Japanese rope bondage. Theory bitches might enjoy the Bi Reading Group session, based on 'in the last ten years there's been an explosion of articles and texts relating to Bisexual theory and praxis across differing academic disciplines'. Tomorrow there are sessions on polyamory, bi-politics, coming out as bi, and film-making amongst others.

that

Slash fiction workshop? Curses.

Is anyone going to it? Will anyone report back? In a researchy way, it might be interesting/useful to find out how a specifically queer event approaches slash.
