NOTTINGHILL CARNIVAL.

who's going to it?

and are you all getting glammed up for it?

i will be going down unless a hurricane or similarly strong natural disaster stops me.

You know, there's something else I'm meant to be doing and I just can't remember what it is. Maybe, you know, if you put like details instead of just, you know, putting the damn name up there or maybe, you know, if you resurrected an old thread or something... am I being too fernickety?

Anyway I seem to recall it's not for a while yet so I just don't know (and also let's make it clear that I'm the most rubbishy Londoner in the world, I still can't remember when the carnival takes place).

Game on!

But it's not til the end of August.

Stoatie was telling me to aim for the Sunday especially as, being kid's day, there's less gun crime?

I'll be there. Probably go on Saturday as it's better music I reckon. I'll be around the corner of Tavistock Rd and All Saints as that's where the DnB is.

The Sunday/Monday thing difference is a lot more understated than some people would have you think (both those who scoff at the suggestion of going on Sunday and those who tremble at the prospect of Monday). It's just busier and a bit more intense on the second day, for better and worse.

Gun crime? Don't believe the hype.

hey anna, im sorry i upset you with my lack of info, but i had no time to get the link action happening.

i also figured since it is one of the top ten parties ON THE PLANET that you may have heard of it and that you would easily find it with google

yeah?

i dont know my plans, and i figured that most of you wouldnt know yours, but i thought this might be a way of getting the ball rolling.

if you are going anyway, it would be a laugh to swap numbers and make arrangements to wear blank badges, or some such nonsense, so we may meet whilst high/drunk in a crowded street.

like serendipity, only a little more organised.

also, i wouldnt be scared of the gun crime. id be scared of the bouncer who wanted to stab me last time.

if i recall correctly, the saturday was the family day and some sound systems dont even crank tunes out on the saturday.

later in the weekend is better in my mind.

I actually really never remember and why should I google anyway (and I've been a Londoner forever and if I don't know when it happens why should anyone else)? Why didn't you spend a little time when posting the information? It's hardly urgent, we have over a month to think about it as I assume you know and knew, it's not like you were going hey carnival this weekend, no time to post the information up so I'll just say a few words! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. It's just careless and frankly pretty fucking annoying when people post a whole new topic in Gathering and say nothing... that's what conversation's for.

And considering the sheer number of people who go to Notting Hill Carnival, one of the TOP TEN PARTIES ON THE PLANET every year you might as well ignore the words gun crime completely. It tends to be a media hype thing because of the representation by minorities and just that little bit racist of the British press.

Wasn't really the press that gave me that impression, media reports have always given me a very good impression of the carnival. It was accounts of people who go year in/year out. I've just been told frequently over the last month that the family day was the one to aim for as it tends to be more chilled out and fun.

Having said that, I'll undoubtedly be there for the entire weekend, using my ninja skills and drunken fighting to ward off attacks by the feckless.

Anyway, me. I'm going. And my mates (friends that is, not condoms.. damn that last advertising campaign really worked on me, bastards). It's just before the classes start here so I could probably do with destressing a bit.

hey, i care big time, okay?

i was going to let that go, but i wont. seriousness included, i am not under the impression that this is a misuse of the space. dates and tims and the like will be sorted later, once we know who is going. there is no point in alienating people by telling them to meet at the house stage when they really want to follow the hip hop system, you know?

when i phomne my MEATSPACE friends i dont tell them when and where to meet first off, i find out from a few what they are into doing, find a best fit plan, and then make the more solid arrangements.

that is what i am doing here.

will you be going to the carnival?

do you want me to find you a party/drugs/sleeping partner ofor the occasion? i have resources, and it would be helpful to know what kind of weekend you are after.

dude, i have already ordered the dirty women and clean drugs, and i'm on a waiting list for the hot hunks. beds are at a premium, but i'll talk to my guy...

wait, you were joking? aw shit....

i will flesh out some of the details of my party plan.

will be staying some tiome with my mate sizemore for some of the time i am down, but during the carnival i will be using my mate leo's house as a base. he lives about three minutes walk up the hill from ladbroke grove tube, so he is well placed for chillout shennanigans.

he also usually has a party lined up somewhere in the carnival that will go on after midnight. the rest of his flat usually work at it.

i will get details on this year's extravaganza, ASAP.

what do you guys all normally do? take a wander round, or find a spot?

Sounds like you are on a mission hon! Good One!

Because it's full blown festival season I have to admit that I'm usually working elsewhere on the weekend of the Carnival, so I am going to be my usual shite self and say I have no idea whether I can make it or not until much closer to the time. Perhaps even hours/minutes before I turn up, or not.

thats cool.

if you try to meet during carnival, its almost guaranteed you will not.

i'll swap mobile numbers with folks like yourself closer to the time, even so.

let me know if you want it.

Char Aina
16:15 / 21.07.03
right.

top, then.

i have about thirteen people in a house, and several more coming from around the city. if my party were to meet your party, it would be FAB. lets all have a big mad meet while mashed, lets.

PM me for my mobile number.

i will be in the city for five days, and may evcen go on a jack the ripper walk if you are interested in that.

Char Aina
22:08 / 24.07.03
i am also now planning a possible ripper walk for after the carnival.

we will be hitting spitalfields first, and then waiting in a pub until it is sufficiently dark and creepy enough to venture out and find a guide.

guesses as to which pub will be obvious and correct, no doubt.
