Delayed reaction to books

So there I was yesterday afternoon, Hoovering the stairs, when suddenly Donna Tartt's The Little Friend popped into my head for no apparent reason.

It was as though I could suddenly take a step back from the book and look at it in its entirety from some state of "outside", and I had a sudden and inexplicable understanding and joy for the book.

Which was strange, as when I read it some months ago I was pretty ambivelent towards it.

Anyone else had this?

I think this kind of thing is often due to the context in which the book is originally read; e.g. if it is set to be read for some kind of course. I don't think anyone reads particularly well if they are following somebody else's reading list.
I do change my mind about books in this way, but for me such reassessment is prompted by a rereading- I don't get this kind of epiphany out of the blue. No idea how it works tho'. A possibility might be that one suddenly reads a crucial character differently- that the bad first impression of the book was due to a bad first impression of the character, and that once one has finished the book and let its emotional effects fade, perspective gives an altogether different impression of the character and therefore the book
