Link's not working.

I saw a link to this from the Anomalist's website and that dinnae work neither.

Someone doesn't want us to know something...

Or not.

This Beeb link seems to work.

from the article...

"Physicist Ken Hicks, of Ohio University, who took part in both the experiment and the confirmatory work at the Jefferson Lab, says it took him two months to convince himself that the pentaquark was real."

I thought that was rather funny. It's almost like magic...

Yeah, I love it in Order of the Phoenix when Hermione conjures that Pentaquark in Dumbledore's pants. Hilarious! Those kids...

Pentaquark: A new fundamental building block of the universe (makes 3 now). PhyicsWeb has an article:

After 30 years of searching physicists have finally found evidence for particles containing five quarks. Most particles are either mesons, which contain a quark and an antiquark, or baryons, which comprise three quarks or three antiquarks. Now nuclear physicists in Japan, Russia and the US have discovered a particle that contains two up quarks, two down quarks and a strange antiquark.

Pretty cool and almost as usefull as the Pentabarf.

Almost? It is magic, just technomagick. Like The Matrix uses technology to astrally travel
Wait, wrong forum...

So which of you Eris-worshippers did a ritual to make quarks arrange themselves this way? Step forward, step forward. So you think you're funny, do you? Good, I do too. Have you any idea the consequences this could have for reality? No? Neither do I. But the cabbages will be scratching their heads about this one for years to come.

I want one! I want a Pentaquark!

I'm a bit confused about this. Is the pentaquark:

1. A new type of quark- like up, down and 'penta'?

2. A new type of particle made up of quarks- so neutrons, protons, and pentaquarks?

or neither of the above?

And if it is number 2, what charge does it have? 1/3?

Quarks come in flavors:
up, down, charm, strange, top, bottom

Quarks combine to form Baryons, Mesons, and now, Pentaquarks. A Baryon is composed of 3 quarks or 3 antiquarks, and a Meson is composed of one quark & one antiquark.

These are all Hadrons, of which the only known stable member is the Proton (a Baryon). The Neutron is also a Hadron (another Baryon), though it is not stable in isolation.

The Pentaquark is composed of 5 quarks: 2 up, 2 down, & 1 strange

The link works for me...
on the rebel particle, it's a Meson called Ds (2317) (catchy name);

The Ds (2317) combines a charm quark with another heavy quark - an anti-strange quark.
Physicists are hailing its discovery as important because it has unexpected properties that will provide insight into the force that binds the quarks together.
This force, unlike most others in nature, becomes stronger as the distance between the two quarks increases.

A neutron is pretty stable, but will eventually pop out an electron to form a proton-electron pair, a.k.a. a Hydrogen atom.
