Okay, I know it's a book, but it's a book about music, and that's why I'm putting it here.
Finally got my copy of "England's Hidden Reverse- A Secret History of the Esoteric Underground" by David Keenan, which, if you don't know, is all about Coil, Current 93 and Nurse With Wound (though from what I can tell, DIJ probably get quite a slating in there too, if you fancy some Nazi-bashing.) And it's LOVELY. It's now my second most prized possession after that TG boxed set.
Just wondering if anyone else has read this yet- it would probably interest a few people on here, cos it's bound to touch on Psychick TV/TG as well as Whitehouse. (probably even the Pink Dots somewhere, but that remains to be seen).
I'm approaching it with some trepidation- while I want as much info about C93 as I can lay my hands on, I'm scared it might take all the mystery out of Coil and NWW if I read that, I dunno, they had to stop in the middle of a really classic track to make some tea or something. For me, C93 have always sounded like a normal guy attempting to come to terms with the cosmic. Coil just sound like the cosmic itself, and as for NWW- indescribable.
The CD that comes with it doesn't look to be anything too special- anyone who's gonna shell out £35 for a hardback on the bands probably already has everything on it- but it's got some cracking photos and Stapleton/Tibet artwork in it.
Sorry. You have no idea how difficult is was not to collar complete strangers on the way back from the bookshop to tell them how chuffed I was that I had it. Just thought it would be safer to do so here.
Slightly more music(k)ally related- there's been much speculation on the Coil mailing list and elsewhere that they may be on the verge of splitting, Balance and Sleazy no longer being a couple. Has anyone else heard any news/rumours about this possible tragedy? |
