The 26th July is right round the corner people

After having brief discussions with people on Sunday I have decided to place details of my (hopefully) fantabulous party up here for all eyes to behold.

Basically my lovelies Saturday the 26th of July is approaching at lightning speed. People will descend upon boring, little Chorleywood (top left hand corner of the tube map, Metropolitan line, further instructions via PM) dressed in clothes that were popular between the years 1885 and 1985. The sight should be marvellous. Those who fail to adhere to this rather strict code will be made to wear a dunce's hat and stand sullenly in the corner until I see fit to release them. Moreover it will not be a cliched dunce's hat- no, it shall be the straw hat of an old woman left in the pub that I once worked at and any male who puts it on will look particularly ridiculous.

Should someone get the urge to come in the costume of a fictional character they must ensure not only that said character was invented during those years but that the garment adorned said character sometime between 1885 and 1985.

There should be croquet and cakes and anyone who brings a bottle of Pimms may be exempt from the dunce's rule. Times have not yet been arranged and actually are rather open but I suspect 4pm is a rather good starting point. I hasten to add that this is not the type of party that hopes to end anytime within twelve hours and in fact should continue steadily in to the next morning. This is an open invitation event but please be wary, like Phil Mitchell I am rather handy with a baseball bat, particularly when the target is human- sized. Hopefully a skill that may be ignored. So please, come and have fun for, well, as long as you want to.

I shall be there and for those of you who would like to take pride in your cross(century)-dressing, I will be adorned with a bunch of photographic equipment. I will be more than happy to provide you with an image that is suitably printed, sepia-ed and distressed to meet the age of your costume.

I discussed this with Paleface and friend today and we came to the conclusion that my hair doesn't look very good 'up' and I am therefore stuck with Naughty Nineties Aesthetic or Seventies Hippy (unless I iron the wretched stuff and wear a mini skirt, the horror). None of these choices fits very well with Flanders and Swann. Nor are they easy to contrive on a budget which currently consists of 12p and a manky plaster... what to do?

1930s. Cardigans, long pants, maybe a floppy hat.

1920s (berlin stylee): fishnet stockings, feather boa, long cigarette, lots of eyeliner, little else

Indeed indeed indeed. Since I live right around the corner I shall be there. Strange little place indeed.

Um. If I can find 1940's womens work overalls I will wear them... sadly I may have to resort to the pimms option. I think the croquet set is in Manchester with my uncle I'm afraid, but I can see if we can borrow it, or locate another.

I'm okay for croquet. As it turns out my friend Hannah's dad is mad for the game. He owns multiple sets so I shall be having words with her and other people for speakers and amps and gosh, I need to sit down with a pen and paper and work out what else I'm going to need. If anyone has requests then don't hesitate to whisper them to me and I'll see what I can do.

damn it all to hell, it would be the weekend of a mate's stag do wouldn't it. BUM .

Have a simply fabulous time my dear and consoul yourself with the fact that as I won't be there, you won't do your back in trying to put the dunces cap on me for my limited wardrobe.

Cat, go for one of the period braids. Will keep your hair under control, if indeed it is as wild as you lay claim, and open the doors of many eras of the past century+

I think that at this stage you can call me and spooky a qualified yes, if that's OK. Will try to bring Cass and reflect, if not more...

I'd like to come, sounds cool and I promise not to dance with your boyfriend - I will be bringing Pimms unless I can find a cheap kilt!

Gosh, won't be able to make it I'm afraid, my best mate's B'day is on the 27th and she has begged me to go up to see her in Edinburgh for the weekend.

It sounds like it will be a lot of fun though, so I will be thinking of you and wishing you well from up north. We'll buy a jug of Pimms from somewhere and raise a glass in your honour.

Have a great day hon!

I'd love to come, but I'll be in Orkney and it's just a teensy bit too far to pop down for a party. Hope it's fun. I would order a glass of Pimms in your honour but I don't know how well that'd go down in an Orcadian pub.

Well Ultimo Bear my lovely boyfriend informs me that he will be very disappointed if you don't dance with him and make him twirl like a girl (again).

I fancy that there may be a little too much pimms at this party. I'm extending the liquor get out clause... anything except whisky people. Hey perhaps some of you could bring fruit to add to the pimms??!

Oh. I am a whisky person. Does that mean I don't have to dress up?

Me and Mrs Panarchy may come. I'de love to dress up as Dillinger or Pretty Boy Floyd but i'm a natural slacker so i'll probably come as David Soul a'la Starsky & Hutch.

Can I come as a bottle of Pimms?

Well I don't know. I imagine so but it really depends when pimms was branded.

Created by James Pimm in his 1820`s Oyster Bar. Pimm began to market it ready-mixed in 1859, such was its popularity. It was taken as a digestive tonic, due to the high level of quinine and the mash of herbs involved in its production. Fashionable society began to drink Pimm`s as a cocktail during the later part of the 19th century, partially for the alcoholic lift and partially because it was weak enough to be drunk all afternoon...

I'm weak enough to be drunk all afternoon, too. I'm not averse to the odd morning, come to that.

Right persons, anyone who's coming PM me and I'll send you directions. If you arrive before half four you get the bonus of a ride from the station to my lovely house. Otherwise you have to walk up a hill.

I still have no idea what to wear. I could perhaps manage a mix of items from different eras, but the effect would be... more than somewhat.

Will bring bottle of pop.

That's what I was thinking (a bottle of pop). I may resort to charity shops at the last minute and find something suitably dreadful.

May possibly be seeing Punji Steak off that day- he's going on safari for a year. But he hasn't told me any details as yet, so if it's possible, I'll try to do both!

The Strobe
07:22 / 24.07.03
I'll be there, obviously, sis. Probably shall be dressed as Huey Lewis, or therabouts. Have been practicing for Miss Kat and myself's cabaret... it's probably going to be quite haphazard. And have some wrong notes. And may not happen. But it's the thought that counts. I'll noodle through cocktail bar classics if necessary.

Do you people see what you'll be missing if you stay away? KCC and Paleface are going to sing. In the front garden. In the warm evening air. Maybe.
